04 Chevy Avalanche Driver's heater blowing cold all the time
Hi!
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche 4x4 Auto with the dual-zone heat and cooling in the front. The passenger side works just like it is supposed to, but the driver's side ONLY blows out cold air. Anyone have this problem or know of what might cause it? Any help would be appreciated!
Okay, so I tried that and it still does the same thing. How tough is an actuator to replace? I am fairly competent mechanically...Is this a project I could take on? Any idea where I could learn more about it?Okay, so I tried that and it still does the same thing. How tough is an actuator to replace? Odd about the timing - but I have the exact same problem with my 2004 Avalanche - seems to have just started this issue this week (or might be the first time that I have used the heater).... The passenger side heats fine, but the drivers side & back only blows cool air. I'll try the disconnect the battery solution first and post back how/if that worked.

I have the same problem on my 2007 Avalanche. The only difference, is my heater blows out cool air from both sides of the cabin at around 80 degrees. If I crank up the heat to 90 degrees, the heater blows out hot air. Took it straight away to the dealer and he wanted to charge me 98$ to look at it and if he had to replace the actuators, that they would be around 240$ each plus labor.I have the same problem on my 2007 Avalanche. My 04 Avalanche also won't blow hot air out any of the dash vents, no matter what you set the temp at. It blows cold air out of the windshield vents only. I tried unhooking the battery for over 5 minutes and did not make any difference. If it is the mode actuator, how hard is it to replace?

I have a very similiar issue on a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche Z71 with Automatic Climate control. Temperature adjustment is not working correctly. Blows cold air most of the time and will get hot if cranked up to 90 degrees and then you feel like you are on fire. Thought that it was a thermostat problem or water pump issue. But this makes more sense, being a Electronic climate control issue. I have a very similiar issue on a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche Z71 with Automatic Climate control. 2004 Tahoe A/C works fine, but no heat from either left or right side unless it is turned up to 90 (max heat). Either side will work only when set at 90
You can hear something when going from 89 to 90 or 90 down.
Tried disconnecting battery and heater control wires at dash.

Your mode actuator is stuck. try unhooking battery for a few minutes when you hook back up actuators will do a relearn.if this does not work will need to have replaced
your drivers side actuator will be on side of air box on left side it should have a big white cam on it might have to pull center console if you have one to gain access. be sure when installing it goes back on as came off there is a lever that hooks in the cam as wellyour drivers side actuator will be on side of air box on left side it should have a big white cam on it might have to pull center console if you have one to gain access. be sure when installing it goes back on as came off there is a lever that hooks in the cam as well

Does the vehicle have dual zone climate control, where the driver side and passenger side have different control? Sounds like a blend door issue on the driver side. Why did you replace the passenger side, was it blowing hot too when AC was on?
Jun 25, 2009 - Hot air from vents-driver side and cool air from vents on passenger side. ... The driver's side vents were blowing out hot air, and everything else wasblowing cold. ... you'll literally have to restart your tahoe/yukon at every traffic light to keep cold air coming ... I was also getting air only out of the defrost vents.

Driver/passenger air vents blow hot then cold when using A/C. Back to cold when you restart the vehicle. Upvote (35) ... 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe ... I have a 02 Tahoe ,and the heat system is working only on the ceiling side of the car when turn.
something wrong with flap operating device ?? would need to get my head under the dash to sort it though because their is so many variables of what could be causing it ,quick fix is to disconnect the operating mechanism and put a elastic band on it till the weather warms up
1. Place the ignition switch in the off position. 2. Remove the HVAC/ECAS fuse for 10 seconds or more. It's in the under hood fuse box. Put the temp in full cold. 3. Install the fuse. 4. Start the engine. DO NOT TOUCH THE HVAC CONTROLS FOR LESS THAN 45 SECONDS. 5. Have any codes cleared with a scan tool.
First....buy a drivers side air flow actuator at a auto parts place for dual zone heating/cooling. (NAPA etc will have it.....or the dealer) Open the glove compartment.....all the way....you may have to take the screws out at the bottom......look in at the heater assembly....look over to the left....you will see the two air flow actuators. Look at the part you have and match it to the part on the heater assembly. The actuator that is closest to the engine is the drivers side control. Replace it. Try your controls and check for heat and cooling on both sides. The stepper motor in these actuators goes bad on quite a few...but over look that.....you have a great car, good for many miles of trouble free driving.
Do you have dual zone heat and cooling controls? If so......the drivers side air flow control unit on the heater assembly is not working. It is mounted on the heater assembly and can usually be accessed through the glove compartment to change it. The stepper motor on these units fails often. This should be the problem on your car 99%...if you have a separate heat/cooling control for driver and passenger areas.
Had the same problem with my Mazda6 awhile back. Took it to the dealer and they found the radiator wasn't holding pressure. They replaced the whole radiator under warranty (WHEW!). Not sure how to check for that kind of thing, but it's a start.
my car is now fixed i bought an accuator from the dealer for around 54 dollars and replaced the driver side accuator by removing the panel below the steering wheel moved all the wires out of the way and it was held on by two screws( .5mm) took around 30- 45 mins. and now the heat is cranking on both sides the dealer said that it is a very common problem in these cars to bad gm is to cheap to put out a recall
