the vent valve by the tank needs to be open so you can fill it with gas but
when you use a smoke machine you need to close it with a scan tool so you can find the leak

When the car is off it has to vent so you can you can fill the tank a scanner can be used to close the vent valve but for a po443 i would say it is the
purge valve or wireing
with the key on 12 volts must come to the pink wire the solinoid should be about 20 ohms andcheck the comtinuity of green/white wire pin 42 on the ecm

SOURCE: how to replace the thermostat on 2001cadillac deville

4.6 Northstar V8. It is located on the rear of engine (driver side) in front. It is 1n the the waterpump housing cover. Remove airbox and intake tube and bottom radiator hose. 2 bolts(believe 10mm) on thermo housing. These systems are a lil finiky about air pockets....so fill slowly and let run at idle until operating temp and let cool and chk level.....fill as needed and repeat if needed.

SOURCE: 2001 cadillac deville, overheats without loss of coolant

First, provided their are no visible coolant leaks and/or loss of coolant with no signs of leaks, I would thoroughly flush cooling system and replace coolant, then check and/or replace thermostat (you can place thermostat in boiling water to check for proper function), if you have tried these 2 steps and still are experiencing overheating you may need to replace your water pump which can be a tricky job if you're unfamiliar and try to do it yourself, however, I could walk you through it if necessary. Also visually check your radiator hoses for bulges, wear ,etc along with heater hoses etc. You may want to also check radiator fins to see if they are dirty/obstructed and clean if necessary. Let me know if I can assist you further and how it works out

IF when you purchased your car you didn't set your own personal code you will have to take this to your local GM dealer and they can pull the code that is set at the factory and unlock your radio.THe proceedure for setting your own code then unlocking radio is in your owners manual. The dealership I worked for did this for free.

Service engine light stays changed gas cap done smoke test replaced oxygen sensor

Code 449 is for a defective vent valve solenoid. The engine computer can not open or close the valve or can not tell if the valve is operating.
The valve/solenoid would need to be tested and you will probably need a shop manual to get the testing procedure.

What does Check Gas cap notice mean

Means you car notices a pressure drop in the evap system. Shut off your car and remove your gas cap, ensure the cap is reinstalled properly. If everything is okay your light should go off in a few days of normal driving. If not schedule an appointment with a shop for a evap smoke test
