P1687 is for no cluster bus message...this could mean a bad cluster....wiring to the cluster ...or a bad pcm...u should take it to a reputable repair facility for further diagnostics

Code 1687 means the computer lost power, probably when you disconnected the battery. Code 1686 means the computer is not talking to the instrument panel. It could be the cluster or a wiring problem. Since you disconnected the battery, the computer may have to re-learn its parameters to know what the base idle should be. You may have to try to drive it a few miles.
