There is only a few things that can cause blinkers to blink continually, meaning if your saying they wont shut off, Normally it is the blinker flasher or a fuse. Sometimes it can be in the blinker switch itself. I first would check the flasher, and turn signl fuse. If the blinker stays on and does not flash, still can be bad flasher or fuse or a ground problem, You would then have to check the wires around area where there contact to the tail light blinkers and front blinkers. But first start as said earlier with checking flasher fuse, switch and fuse. Mike

2000 lincoln continental signal and hazard blinking lights not blinking

Do you know what a lighting control module is ?
Turn Signal and Hazard Lamps The turn signal system consists of:
  • turn signal miniature bulbs (13465)
  • lighting control module
  • multi-function switch (13K359)
  • indicator bulbs in the virtual image instrument cluster (10849)
  • circuit wiring and circuit protection
Turn signal system operates as follows:
  • The multi-function switch is protected by fuse junction panel Fuse 3 (10A). This fuse is hot in RUN.
  • Circuits 104 (LB/O) and 105 (R/W) connect lighting control module to the left and right turn signal switches of the multi-function switch.
  • Ground is provided to the lighting control module and the turn signal miniature bulbs through Circuit 57 (BK).
  • Turn signal functions are performed by double filament bulbs in lamp assemblies located next to the headlamps.
  • The turn/hazard function utilizes the second filament of the appropriate bulb(s).
  • With the multi-function switch in the right turn position, power is supplied to the RH front and rear turn signal miniature bulbs and the RH turn indicator in the instrument cluster.
  • With the multi-function switch in the left turn position, power is supplied to the LH front and rear turn signal miniature bulbs and the LH turn indicator in the instrument cluster.
  • Do you know what diagnostic trouble codes are ?
Section 17-01: Lighting, Exterior 1997 Continental Workshop Manual DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING Procedure revision date: 07/29/1996 Turn Signal Lamps/Hazard Warning Flasher Lamps
Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the turn signal/hazard flasher lamps to duplicate the condition.
  1. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:

    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Mechanical Electrical
    • Damaged multi-function switch.
    • Circuitry open/shorted.
    • Fuse junction panel fuses:
      • 1 (10A)
      • 3 (10A)
      • 7 (15A)
      • 13 (15A)
      • 19 (10A)
      • 20 (10A)
      • 25 (10A)
      • 31 (15A)
    • Power distribution box Fuse 16 (20A)
    • Bulb open.
  1. If inspection reveals an obvious concern that is readily serviced, correct the concern before continuing with Inspection and Verification.
  1. If a concern remains after the inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel to perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the lighting control module, GO to Pinpoint Test CA. If the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test is passed for the lighting control module, retrieve continuous DTCs and execute Self Test Diagnostics for the lighting control module to retrieve current DTCs.
  1. If self test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
  1. If DTCs are retrieved, go to the Lighting Control Module (LCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
  1. If the lighting control module cannot be accessed by the NGS, go to Pinpoint Test CA.
Rotunda Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS®) 001-00001 may also be used to diagnose this system.
your best bet mite be to take it to a qualified repair shop. Unless you have a scan tool that can check for DTC'S an know how to use a wiring diagram an DMM - digital multi-meter to test electrical circuits .

Alpha Romeo 156 My Left hand indicator light stays on continually, does not flash. and when I turn the hazard light switch on both indicators continually glow.

Generally speaking, symptoms of a bad or failing turn signal bulb are usually the culprit...in your case, either it's the front left or rear bulb. Varies for different vehicle makes...common signs include:
  1. turn signal light staying on solid
  2. or blinking very fast
  3. or either sides of the bulbs stop blinking altogether.
To test this, make sure you reconnect everything you disconnected.
Turn the left signal light on; go to the front of the vehicle, is the turn signal bulb illuminated? If it lights up, even though it is not blinking obviously the bulb is okay. If it doesn't, replace it- problem solved. You'll do the same procedure for the rear turn signal Is that lit up? If not replace the bulb and the problem is solved.
Another common failure is when the turn signal blinks really fast, same procedure as mentioned above.
If both bulbs for the left side and right side illuminate but don't blink, the problem is in the steering column turn signal switch.
If the left or right side blinkers don't work properly at all...then check the integrated hazard warning/turn signal flasher relay- that may be defective; again, that's usually the case if both sides of the signal light don't work.
If you are blowing any fuses related to the flasher system, you have an electrical overload in the turn signal circuitry.

I have sourced out all fuses and bulbs, yet continue to have a rapid right turn signal. I don't know where else to look. help?

replace the right rear bulb. the quick flashing indicates a bad bulb. it could be a wiring problem to the rear for the signal light that you will have to check out starting at the socket and working forward.

After using turn signal you can still hear clinking, is hazard relay part of turn signal

The hazard switch is also the device that supplies the turn signal "flash". If you continue to hear the noise of the turn signal flashing when the turn signals off than the problem is the turn signal switch. It is grounding The purple wire from the hazard switch which makes the hazard switch think the turn signal is on. The fix for this is to relace the turn signal/multi-function switch. Typically they will start to go bad in stages. Your symptom is the first stage. Eventually either the turn signals or the brake lights will also sto working. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

2000 Lumina All fuses good, no Brake or turn signal lights, even on the dash, flasher unit checks good but no power to it. Any ideas out there?

Will your Center High-Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) illuminate when you depress the brake pedal, but the lower/outer lights will not?
-- Do you have to hold the signal lever in a certain spot to get the turn signals to flash?
-- Do you have to hold the signal lever in a certain spot to get the lower/outer brake lights to illuminate?
-- Will the signals work in one direction, but not the other?
If you answered yes to any of the preceeding questions, your turn signal switch is likely malfunctioning.

**One more question before we continue: Is the turn signal lever not "cancelling" (returning to the "off" position) after you make a turn? If this is the case, you have a broken "cancelling spring."

Before you begin disassembly of your steering column, verify the turn signal flasher is not malfunctioning. If your brake lights work fine, but not the signals (either direction,) then it's likely the flasher is burnt out. The flasher itself is located underneath the dash near where the steering column passes through the firewall
