Turn signals and breaklights work fine, but the rear running lights stay on when
i turn off the engine. i have to disconnect the battery or it will drain. when i re-
connect the battery to start the car, the rear running lights stay on even if
the light switch on the steering column is in the off position. 2000 accent
standard transmission
Hiya if the rear lights are remaining on ? with no ignition it will be the brake lights staying on this is easily remendied/ checked by trypulling the brake pedal up by hand and see if lights go off ? if so then you will need to adjust the b/light switch which is positioned adjacent to pedal and can be screwed inwards towards the pedal untill the plunger on switch is pushed into the switch which puts lights off ensure pedal is fully up then adjust switch reconnect the wire/plug and press pedal slightly to ensure b/lights operate ok and then go off with pedal released ? on hyundai the brakelights do not req ignition on to operate hence more likely problem is as above good luck

Your brake pedal has a piece underneath it(a solenoid) that is stuck
My taillights stay on even when i disconnected the wire to the brake pedal..

silver top, it was exactly as you said. but the solution wasn't adjusting the plunger. the problem was
that the plastic dime sized disk that the plunger touches had become brittle and had broken into many
pie shaped pieces and had fallen off. i found a plastic disk around the same size and thickness and glued it on. thanks for the guidance !!
I have a 2003 Hyundai accent. Rear lights stay on even when car is off. Not sure what to do
Signal light, Headlights ( low and high) do not work, and turning on the signal causes the tachometer and speedometer to gauge to spin, as though the car were moving.... All while ignition switch is in the on position, but with the engine not running.... .the interior fuses are all fine.

check you have the correct bulbs in? sounds ridiculous i know! but well worth a shot!!
the brake switch which id located at the brake pedal make sure its fully in and fully tightened down , when in proper position the switch prong will be pushed inward when you apply the brake pedal the prong will pretrude out then the light should come on and when the pedal is released back in its resting position the prong will be pushed in. there the lights will be off.
