Sounds like clutch switch, Check under dash follow clutch pedal up and see if there is a switch under dash, should be Purple wires going to it Heavy gauge wires, need to unplug it and put a jumper in from one side to other and cover with tape so it doesen't touch and ground out and blow a fuse, then see if it will start and if it took care of your problem, if so replace switch

My 2011 KIA Sportage won't start. Put a new battery in and still wont start lights , radio all come on just won't turn over. What to do?

Just a thought since my sons 07 kia was having trouble starting a couple months ago. His is a standard shift, voltage good, I reached under dash and pushed clutch pedal switch plunger button in. Punt in neutral and pulled emergency brake and turned the key, cranks right up. It was not the switch, the pedal linkage/rod to the pedal has a flat plate off to the side the plate which pushes in the clutch pedal plunger to the switch. The plate has a hole in it but I did not know what goes in the hole, I put a flat bolt and nut on it . It has been cranking fine for a couple months. The switch plunger was going in the hole sometimes and the car would not start. The clutch pedal switch will not let the car crank unless the clutch is pushed in. If your car is an Automatic the neutral safety switch on the transmission will do the same thing it has to be in park or neutral. I am having second thoughts I am pretty sure it was clutch pedal switch but having a odd thought it may have been brake pedal switch. You might even be able to put duct tape over the hole till you get the correct plug for the hole if this is your problem.

08 Zafira 1.9cdti not starting (was taking a while to start before)changed glow plugs but still just Turning over, going to change the filter in morning, just wondering if any body else has an idea??

in a situation where a vehicle is started while in gear and the clutch not engaged the vehicle will jump very dangerous. So for safety the manufacturer has implimented 2 safety switches located by the clutch and brake pedal if the pedal is not pressed thereby activating the switch the car wont start. Check if the switch connections are ok sometimes they get stuck or get dislodged and also sometimes need to be readjusted

Why wont my 1989 honda civic start ? i replaced the starter and battery, wont start, not even off a jump start, but will off a push start get a dull thud sound from the main relay, could it be bad ?

Your Civic has a manual tranny - correct? The problem could be a bad Clutch Safety switch. Many Hondas are listed as having this switch with the manual tranny. The switch prevents the car from starting if the tranny is in gear and the clutch is not depressed, preventing the car from lunging forward. If the switch is there , it is located on the clutch pedal bracket. The switch has two wires, so if you remove the electrical plug from the switch and jump the plug, maybe the car will start? Good Luck!!!

Try different location on the clutch pedal to get it to start

If you look above the clutch pedal you should be able to see the operating switch, depress clutch pedal and see that there is clearane between the pedal and switch, It may be loose or require adjustment, the other option is to remove terminal block and bridge the terminals, this will delete the need for the switch and also the need to depress the pedal to start the motor, Regards Mike

clutch safety switch bad. may be bad wire/fuse. shld be located on the clutch pedal normally kind of square to oblong box type switch abt inch and half long.you can unplug it, and place a jumper wire in the plug terminals and if it starts then you know its the switch (note: it works the same as a nuetral safety switch on an automatic)

My 2003 acura rsx only start when i push it,whats the problem

It sounds like the Neutral safety switch on the clutch pedal or a starter problem. Try pushing the clutch pedal REAL FAR DOWN while starting. If it works have the switch adjusted.
If that isn't the problem try a jump start. If that doesn't work, a starter may be be needed. Try tapping on the starter with a wrench then start.

I own a 1992 gmc jimmy and I was wondering if the clutch sensor has anything to do with starting. Sometimes when I start it, it takes a few times before it starts. Am not pushing the clutch far enough down...

Yes, there is a clutch switch which must be activated (closes switch) for the starter to engage. This is a safety item so the truck won't start in gear. With time it may begin to fail, this should be any easy fix. And yes from time to time you may not be pushing the clutch in far enough to actuate this switch.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

Car wont start sometimes when clutch is pushed in.

Look up under the dash at the clutch pedal arm, if your car is equiped with a cluch safety switch, the switch may be out of adjustment or in need of replacement.
Check the switch, connectors and adjustments.

Hope this is of some help.
