I am fitting a new clutch assy to my vy ss ute, i bought the kit genuine from Holden removed the old assy and fitted the new flywheel, clutch plate n pressure plate. but my problem is that i have torqued the pressure plate bolts to the torque they suppose to be but the pressure plate does not bolt up firmly to the flywheel and there is about a 4mm gap between the flywheel and pressure plate. The bolts have about 5 - 10 above the thread where there is no thread and they cnt be done up any tighter. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Just a long shot, but do you have the clutch disc in backwards?
It only goes in one way in most vehicles.Flywheel side to the flywheel.

SOURCE: I need the bolt torque specs

go to the local auto parts store and purchase a Chiltons Repair Manual on your car, it has all the torque specs listed for this. Or you could try the library and see if there is one there for your car and just look it up for free..... just write it all down.

SOURCE: 87 samurai bolt torque specs for engine

The haynes book is not recommended since there are numerous mistakes and they still will not update. One of the biggest is the firing order.

The factory service manual is the only way to go.

Head bolts - 46 - 50.5 lbs (there is an order sequence for the bolts)

Intake & exhuast manifolds- 13.5 - 20 lbs

Flywheel - 41.5 - 47 lbs

Clutch cover - 13.5 - 20 lbs

SOURCE: Bolt torque specs for flywheel, pressure plate,

1.Flywheel - 61 to 69 Foot Pounds
2.Pressure Plate - 25 to 33 Foot Pounds
3.Bell Housing - No specs found. I would say 25 to 35 foot pounds should be sufficient.

Bolts clean on ->flywheel to crank, ->pressure plate to flywheel, and ->bell housing to back of engine, I would use TWO drops of Loctite Red threadlocker, on ALL of these bolts.

Hope you have an alignment tool for your clutch disk when you install it. Auto parts stores sell the plastic one's cheap! Saves a LOT of headaches!

Tighten the pressure plate EVENLY! Snug the bolts down until they just TOUCH, then go in a criss-cross pattern when tightening. Do the tightening in incremental stages! You turn one bolt one thread, you go across to the opposite side, and turn that bolt one thread. Keep criss-crossing so the pressure plate goes down EVENLY. (YES, it's a pain in the keister!)

If NOT, you'll have a warped pressure plate, and it will be junk!
Thanks for letting me say that, I feel better.

I have a Clark fork lift with a grey Holden motor. It needs a new clutch. I think someone has butchered it. Has anyone got a manual or pictures of the correct couch and pressure plate.

go to Clark fork lift service shop and ask for a parts break down for that engine combination
The pressure plate should be the standard plate to fit that flywheel but the clutch plate may have a bigger hub section for the transmission input shaft. Either way they will be able to advise of the clutch kit part number

How to swap over my auto box in vy ss ute with another..is there much involved if i get another second Han 1?

I'd be going for the rebuild for $400 atleast you know it's done and all good. To do a change over disconnect all the cooling lines to the trans, undo the linkages, take out the tail shaft, disconnect all wiring to the trans, undo the bolts slide it out and replace. It's not a fun job without a hoist though

Replacement clutch is too small? Thought there was only one engine in 2000 hyundai accent, the 1.5L. Title says its been rebuilt twice. How do I find out what clutch i need to ask for?

the different clutch sizes are for the different capacity engines
The 7" would be most likely be for the 1.4 or 1.6 version engines where the 8" would be for the for the 2.0 or 2.4l engines
If the flywheel is flat across the face ( not recessed) the the clutch plate you want will fit as long as the pressure plate is the same diameter and the bolts fit the cover to the flywheel
it is possible to get a standard clutch kit or a heavy duty clutch kit which has a higher pressure plate reading to cope with heavier loads ( towing etc)
if an 8" came out , you need to replace it with an 8"
The bigger the clutch , the longer the period before replacing it
If you can get to it you can measure the shiny wear patterns on the flywheel and if the incorrect plate was fitted at some time you will see the old wear pattern outside the latest shiny surface
what you have to be aware of is the spline number and size of the new clutch plate so try it on the input shaft before fitting to the flywheel

Clutch installation

Genewrally speaking you need to remove the gear box. UNdo the bolts holding the clutch pressure plate on the flywheel. . Do this by undoing each bolt a few turns at a time. Remove pressure plate and clutch plate. Clean flywheel face. Remove bearing at center of crankshaft and replace as it will be dry and probably rusty. Fit new clutch plate taking care to observe the correct way the plate is fitted. Normally the raised hub section faces away from the flywheel. THis can be checked by pressing the plate against the flywheel and turning it and it it hits the crank bolts you have it in the wrong way round. Fit the pressure plate over the plate and insert the bolts. Some units have 2 or 4 bolts longer than the restand this is to allow the plate to be depressed a fraction to allow the other bolts to screw in. Place a clutch aligning tool through the clutch plate and into the bearing. Evenly retension the pressure plate bolts going alternately across the cover a bit at a time . When retensioned remove the clutch aligning tool. Remove and replace the throw out bearing on the clutch release forks. Ensure that the clutch kit is all new as mixing parts will not work. Refit the gear box. Basically that is the proceedure but to be exact get the manual for your vehicle to cover any extra steps needed for that vehicle.

I am fitting a new clutch assy to my vy ss ute, i bought the kit genuine from Holden removed the old assy and fitted the new flywheel, clutch plate n pressure plate. but my problem is that i have torqued...

Wondering if you compared the thickness of the new pressure plate flange to the old one.If the metal is thinner than the original, maybe the bolts are just bottoming out.If this is the case, you can probably get shorter bolts, trim the originals,or use a fat washer.Just make sure you allow more than just enough,as you don't want them to bottom out at the point where the flange looks seated.

did you use a pilot spline to align the clutch and did you change the pilot bearing in the end of the crank. The clutch plate maybe interfering with the pressure plate if it is not lined up.
