2000 Pontiac Montana with coolant fans not operating.

Coolant fans would not work, even when AC was turned on, which is when they are supposed to work regardless of engine temp. Disconnected temp sensor on block; fan worked. Other than new sensor (assuming sensor is lone culprit), is there any other components that should be changed to fix problem?

Sensor would be the simple fix. The fans come on when the engine gets hot. At least you know the fans are working. The sensor is a simple switch controlled by heat.

SOURCE: cooling fan not working

The fans only run when the engine reaches approxminatly 235 degrees F. on the guage that is near the end of scale just before guage show "HOT" I don't think you have a problem, allot of folks out there don't know about this.

SOURCE: 95 grand am radiator fan only runs with AC on

Cooling Fan Temp Sensor is the First thing You Check (with what you have described) Cooling Fan Should ALways come On When The A/C is turned On as A/C Adds A Load to Engine, If Temp Sensor is Faulty it Will Not Give GROUND Signal to ECM >For COOLING FAN >RELAY to Give ground and turn ON The Fan.
There ARE 2 temp Sensors that Serve Different Purposes 1 is for Dash READING GAGE & Or TEMP LIGHT the Other is For ECM or Fan Relay (SAME Thing) you Said>""can disconnect the sensor and fan continues to run" < This Leads me to think you Changed the Wrong One. Not Questioning your Skills Just Here to Help.
TEMP SENSOR FOR 3.1L V6 is Located upper RH rear of engine compartment, near exhaust system. Temp SENSOR for 2.3L Engine is Located in LH rear of engine compartment.
I Hope this Helps Lead you to a NON-OVERHEATING Pontiac.
Good Luck and Have A Great Evening. rejakwilson

I'm working on a 2002 Pontiac Montana 3400 motor. I changed the heater core to fix the water leak and lack of heat on the inside of the vehicle. and when I crack the vehicle to check for leaks and to check...

You need to bleed the air from the cooling system. The bleeder valve is located just behind the water pump housing. It is a small hex head (7MM) screwed into the coolant bypass tube. Pour coolant into radiator with the valve opened until coolant comes out of the valve. The cooling fans will not come on until the temperature reaches 225 degrees.

Engine cooling fan only works when ac or defrost is on

if engine at long stand still, the engine temperature will rise about 190 degrees the cooling fan suppose to automaticaly turn on when coolant temperature sensor get hot it cause its resistance decrease causing pcm to send power to coolant fan relays and cooling fans, when you turn on AC the cooling fans suppose to turn on to cool down AC CONDENSOR, IF NOT AC WONT WORK COOLING FAN COOLS DOWN REFRIGERANT SO IT CAN RECYCLE THROUGH THE SYSTEM AGAIN.your cooling is suppose to turn on when engine at a sit still if vechicle not moving as coolant temperature rises at a set point the cooling fans will turn on cool down engine.cooling fans dont turn on when you first cold stsrt vechicle unless you have AC SWITCH ON.if cooling fans dont turn on when vechicle at a long stand still or moving along slow traffic.if coolant temperature sensor been replaced and fuses and relays okay have dealership check see if pcm driver circuit working faulty pcm will cause cooling fans not to turn on.

Antifreeze backing up into overflow

Your radiator cap may not be holding pressure, or there may be a head gasket failure that's allowing compression pressure to get into the cooling system. The overflow is supposed to have *some* coolant backup in it normally; I assume yours is pushing a lot of coolant into the tank. That's usually a sign of a blown head gasket (and sometimes a cracked head), which is distressingly common on these at high mileages - particularly when the radiator fan connector burns out or the intake gaskets have failed and let the coolant escape to cause an engine overheat.

I have a Pontiac Montana (2000). That on my way to work the low coolant level light came on. and after work when I started it up the light did not come right away but it came on and there was no heat and...

No. It is not the thermostat. You are just low on coolant. The reason for the low coolant is either the fan is not working, the head gasket is blown, or the coolant system has a leak.
The fan is easy to check. When the temp comes up then the fan should come on.
The head gasket is easy to check also. Your oil will be milky white.
And if the radiator, radiator hose, or gasket leak can be harder to find.
The heater not working is because there is not enough water to heat the heater core.
PLEASE RATE. By checking Four thumbs ups!
Thanks! Have a GREAT DAY!

I have a 2000 pontiac Montana. The problem is with the coolant

We have the same problem. It's an air pocket in the cooling system. The cause can be anywhere from not filling the system all the way or most likely a leak has developed and air has entered into the system as the coolnt level has dropped. The coolant light goes off and on as the air pocket moves around.

Our Montana has a leaky intake gasket, which is the source of the problem. A very common problem with the 3.4. It should go for another 100K plus though, once it is repaired.

I have a pontiac montana 2000 my problem is i dont have warmth in front of in my heater and behing it is very warm

There are a couple of possible problems Carole.
First one is there may be a blockage inside the heater core causing poor flow of the coolant from the engine which gives you the heat.
If this is the case the core will need to be flushed out or possibly replaced.
Second problem may be the door that is supposed to move inside the heater box that changes the air flow from cold to hot may not be working properly. The controls may be defective or the door is seized.
Because your heater in the back is working well the thermostat and the coolant level should be OK.
