We are trying to change the rear rotors on a 2005 magnum and are getting resistance when pulling them off. it almost seems to have a spring effect. it is loose but when you pull it pulls back. help!! a mechanic friend suggests hitting them w/a hammer to break it loose. is there anything we need to release? ie. clamp, spring, etc.....
We are trying to replace the rear rotors and are not having any luck. We are told that the parking brake has to be released but still no luck releasing it.
The parking brake shouldn't be holding them on unless you have the brake set. Don't hit them with a hammer or you'll damage the parking brake shoes and springs. Check the cables to make sure they aren't rusted or binding. More likely than not this is the case as the shoes have dug into the rotor. If they are, use a screwdriver to press the shoes off the rotor as you or an assistant slides them off.

are you saying that the brake calliper body has the special bolts holding it to the axle housing that you cannot undo and you cannot move the callipers back off the discs to get the discs off
to get the correct tool to do the job , ask a brake specialist shop for the tool size
remove the caliper, by removing the two holding bolts, then use a old brake pad against the pistons and a c clamp and push piston all the way in, next is to clean and lube pad mounting surface and the caliper slide pin, then install new pads on bracket then caliper and tighten caliper bolts, heres a diagram to help you,
first take of tires take of calipers then pull of rotors. Then put new ones on. If you need more help goto602-909-6450 Message collisionrepairadvice.com

The bolts pull out after being unscrewed Rock the caliper back and forth to release the pads and caliper assy. from the anchor assy. If you are removing the rotors to be cut then you have to remove the larger bolts holding the anchor bracket . TIP the piston on the the LEFT side is turned clockwise to collapse BUT the piston on the RIGHT side is turned COUNTER-CLOCKWISE
Even though you replaced the rotors, seems that you will still need to have them resurfaced. This assuming you are experiencing pulsation only when braking.

The park brake shoes are on the inside of the rotors, you need to back off the adjustment on the park brake shoes to get the rotors off. They are cable operted and that is were the adjuster is.
