My 1998 Ford Wndstar has over 112k miles. After turning on engine I apply my foot to the brake to put the car into reverse. An alarm comes on until 2 seconds after shifter into reverse. The alarm did not come on when I stopped or when I stepped on the brake for shifting to drive.
I appreciate any information and guidance.

Check the alarm hood switch on the passenger side. Was the car in a accident ever? There should be a little rubber stopper that contacts the switch when the hood is closed. Either the rubber piece (attatched to the underside of the hood) is missing or the rubber is not contacting the switch.

Hi,
I am assuming that your Odyssey has a factory installed alarm system. If yes, then it is a basic door and ignition sensor to trigger and therefore should have no false trigerring. If it activates (with no) randomly even when not triggerred, then it can only be further assumed that door locking/sensor mechanism is getting false readings. Any thing out of the ordinary with the doors? (especially driver's side passenger doors).
You may want to check the electrical connection of the power sliding doors (Junction Switches). Like most door switches, they may be misaligned, worn out, corroded or simply deteriorated. Being an electrical device, moisture, rust, dust, grime and dirt may affect its performance.
If that does not correct the problem, you may want to check fuse #13 (the manual says #5) for continuity. There are some instances that remove and reinstall resets the alarm.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

when you hit the brake pedal, do your brake lights light up??? Maybe the sensor on the pedal is bad and that is why its not releasing the shift lock.
Look above the brake pedal on the linkage for the switch. Maybe there will be a loose wire or it got bent or something?
(even if the brake lights light up, it still might be the switch... some vehicles have 2 switches on the brake pedal)

It sounds like the shifter lock out solenoid has gone bad.It is a solenoid that releases the shifter when you push the brake pedal.
