Jeep grand cherokee head lamps

When turning jeep on both headlights come on always. As soon as I release the key the passenger side headlight usually goes off (sometimes it will stay on but 95% of the time it will go off after releasing the key) The driver's side headlight works great. This is not when I turn the high beams on - it's just reg lamps. Any ideas???

Two items to check. headlight relays and body control module. Also make sure firewall and dash grounding is good. Might also be a multi-function switch internal problem (part of directional switch) You need to test or without fail, you'll change everything and the last part changed will be the one with the problem.
Get a decent manual and a test light or better, volt meter.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Liberty 3.7L. What would cause the headlights not to work?

Hello Joe

Not sure what you mean when you say "when I turn the lever loose"?

It sounds like the switch is faulty. If both headlights come on and then go off when you touch the lever, you know it isn't the bulbs, relays or fuses because they start off working.

There is definitely a short in the park lights system. Did you just have a radio installed....since the illumination wire sometimes gets grounded and will cause that fuse to blow until you fix that wire.

This sounds like you have some wiring crossed. the best solution is to have a dealer check this issue. Wiring can be extremly tricky. Be forwarned though that for wiring it's usually a diagnostic check and repair. Don't be surprised if this is a costly repair.
