I have a 97 1500 silverado, it is stuck in park. i noticed the transmission engaging cable was broke so i repaired it with dealer part. after new cable was placed it still wont engage. if i move the the bar the cable is connected to, under the truck, an eighth of an inch i can engage the truck out of park to all gears untill it is placed back in park then its stuck again. any thoughts

sounds like its time to rebuild it including a new shift valve body

Check out this site for the part to fix the transmission end of the cable. Go to the rear end of the transmission on the driver' side (under the car/truck). Make sure to push the transmisssion lever toward the front of the car/truck (park position), the shifter should also be in park. Get the part, install is easy.
