After driving late night on a mountain road , I noticed that my Vue ( 36,000 miles) started to whistle after it warmed up and was at speeds of 30 mph or higher. Whilse sound liek its coming from the back half of the vehicle. Inspection showed no holes no loose parts. Can't find out what is causing it. Any suggestions?
Hi all,
I currently own a 2005 saturn vue and also a 2002 saturn vue. My 2005 began making the same whistling sound around 36000 miles, I let it go and let it go. Finally it got so bad I could not deal with it any longer, I have a great mechanic and he automatically point out the carrier bareing I had it replaced and my car is very very peaceful...... :) Hope this helps.
There is a bearing that supports the dive shaft to the rear wheels. This bearing dries out with road grime and under car washes. Greasing the bearing eliminated the whistling
I have a 2006 with the same symptoms. I've been spraying mine with penetrating oil
and it makes it stop for a while. How did you grease the bearing. Did it need to be
removed first?
ended up replacing my carrier bearing. Problem solved
I also added a sheild to protect the bearing from splash and debrishttp://www.impact3d.com/center_support_b...

I had same problem with my 2003 Vue took back to the deale twice and they said nothing was wrong. Two years later took back to dealer for unrelated issue and the mechanic heard the noise and replaced the ball bearings problem solved!
