My 1998 Honda civic ex won't move but the motor

  • mcleod1244 Nov 06, 2011

The clutch is new and it shifts at the shifter but it seems like there is no gears. Can hear a scraping sound when the car is in gear but won't move the reverse gear is louder.

Have you just replaced the clutch? Taken out the transaxle, and put it back in? Are you sure transmission was in good condition before this? If so, review your procedure carefully to be sure you got it all back right.
Watch the slave cylinder while someone depresses clutch. You should see the little plunger move slightly out and move the clutch lever back. The lever moves the release bearing inside bell housing into contact with the pressure plate. If slave cylinder doesn't move at all, try bleeding again. The plunger has to move when clutch is engaged.
I'm not sure what you mean by "will shift but won't go into gear". You mean it's actually going into a gear position and car won't move? Or it won't go into any gear, period. As if you had no clutch?

Clutch is newly installed and so is the slave cylinder. Only makes a scraping sound when in gear, loudest in reverse. It shifts at the shifter but no movement at wheels.

Oh, okay, sorry to hear that bit of news. It sure sounds like something came loose or broke inside the transaxle. It will have to be torn down for repair. A cheaper alternative is to buy a used 5 speed, change the fluid, change the axle seals (about 12 bucks apiece), and install that.

Better have it diagnosed. Could be mechanical problem or electrical problem. ust don't know-you will have to have somebody look at it.

I have a 1998 honda civic ex while my car is on and in nutrel I can not shift into any gear and when I do it grinds. While car is off it acts like it will go in gear but will not it moves freely

Clutch is not freeing properly. Remove the gearbox, check the clutch and reassemble. It could be the clutch plates have swollen due to moisture and lack of use.
Bleed the system again and test.

My clutch is to the floor no pressure I've bleed it every which way possible I checked the lines for leaks everything what might be wrong

I assume when bleeding clutch lines you are able to get fluid to flow through, so there must be something wrong with the pedal assembly, i'd check there and work way forward

2006 honda civic 5 speed manual trans engine surges when down shifting from 2nd to 1st

Greetings & salutations Robert Avila,

(First question on FIXYA... Welcome).

Your engine surging and what gear you
"DOWN-SHIFT" to ... ought have very little in
common save for one condition (I can think of)...

Your clutch RELEASE is MARGINAL..!!

Check your master/slave clutch cylinders to see
if there is any leakage (fluid might also be low)...

These are not EXPENSIVE and USUALLY fail
in pairs...

If the surging happens with the clutch released... that
is a WORN CLUTCH DISC (replacement time)...

Clutch for a 1993 civic ex

Could be your slave cylinder again, sometimes they don't last long, had one only last 10 months,go check your clutch master cylinder's fluid,if out, then slave cylinder is bad and should show signs of leakage.Another thing it could be if slave cylinder is good, then check the clutch master cylinder.

98 civic hatchback, clutch goes to floor and stays there. The clutch and brake system share a resevior for fluid. Fluid levels are good. Is there a cylinder for the clutch like the brake cylinder? Is it...

Yes ,there has to be a separate clutch slave cylinder,
as it used to be called
Can't use the brake master for both
If you look around the transaxle, you should be able
to follow a plastic or rubber line back to the slave cyl
It may be down low on firewall
You most likely will have to get those parts at a dealer,
as I recall, from years ago when i had a trans shop
Sorry I can't be exactly familiar with your exact set up

Where is the clutch switch located on a 1995 honda civic

There are two switches. The one you probably want is the starter/clutch interlock switch which is located at near the upper end of the clutch pedal. This switch engages your clutch. If engine wont turn over with clutch depressed and key to start, loosen the locknut and turn the cylinder clockwise to move the switch in closer to the clutch, try again. If problem persists, check ignition switch wiring for shorts/bad connections; there is no voltage from the starter relay to the switch, or no continuity between the two terminals on the switch, or the switch is bad. Hope this helps you out
