2000 VW Jetta squealing when shifting from 2-3rd and hard shift down when going up hill

The soudn seems to be transmission but I'm not sure. It squeals when its hot and when accelerating from 2nd - 3rd for a split second. Then when going up hill it slams the gear down quite hard when shifting down. To me it seems like a dry transmission...any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem, intermittent squeeling when accelerating and sometimes when shifting, it is an automatic tranny. Some times it will not down shift when coming to a stop as well, then it will CLUNK into low gear.

Hi if its just second to thrid then the clutch is slipping on thrid gear look at the boxes oil level is important but look at the colour is it red and tranperant as this is ok if its brown its a sign of the clutches slipping i would try a stall test on thrid gear first and if its ok second gear [manually] see is the engine stalls at the correct rpm if you thinkabout it imagine you are in thrid gear in a manuual box and suddenly drop into second it would be hard shifting it could also be a faulty thrid gear solenoid yates210456

My 2007 VW Jetta, transmission is shifting HARD in Reverse, from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd.No symbols or codes have shown up. What should I look for as the reason why ?

It sounds like you may have a bad synchronizer gear. Unless you know how to take down a transmission and replace it I'd visit a good reputable shop to get their opinion and estimate.

Is there a Fuse for a/t shifting, 2000 vw jetta

From the tear of the car I guess you have the 4-speed automatic. That transmission is not one of the most reliable ones...it has an internal wiring harness with relays attached to it, that are in control of what gear to select, based on input from an internal speed sensor, engine speed sensor and wheel speed sensor. There is also an issue with VW claiming that the transmission "is filled for life", which is absolute B.S. You have to change the transmission fluid and the filter at least every 60K or you will face an expensive rebuild. Have your mechanic scan the computer for fault codes related to the transmission and change the fluid and filter when the problem got fixed.

My car has trouble shifting uphill and in low gears

When a car is going uphill, it has to use more power to get up the hill. Most automatic transmission cars will automatically detect this, and shift into a lower gear to get the car up the hill easier. As you get to the top or let off the gas, the car should than shift into a higher gear to maximize fuel efficiency. What does your transmission seem to do? Not want to go into a lower gear, are the RPMs jumping up and down before it shifts?

Transmission wont shift in to gear at normal idle and will roll back on hill works better after driven for some time reverse is fine the trany code is clk

I was sold a VW Jetta, that seems to be having some transmission problems. Shifting is not done effeciently. Therer are 102,000 miles on the vehicle. As I read the site, I understand that there is no area to put transmission fluid, Does that mean that I have to replace the entire transmission. How much would that cause me?

My gear shift has a problem going back into 1st gear. The clutch is fine, a friend told me it could be the shift bearing need replacing. What or where could I look at to see the diagram of how the bearings...

Well the is no such thing as a shift bearing associated with a VW Jetta. Alot of VW 020 5 speeds won't let it shift into first gear until you are going under ten miles an hour or so. I don't know if it's a design feature so you won't put it in first at a high speed and over rev the motor, or what for sure. I have a Scirocco 16v and a Jetta GLI 16v, all have the same transmission as the 1993-98 Jetta, they both do the same thing. Does the shifter lever have any "play" in it? There are a few bushings for the shifter and the linkage going to the transmission, that do wear out and will cause it to be hard to shift into gear.

97 VW Jetta automatic trans not shifting without lifting off gas

The tranny's are notorious for having "small" problems before they actually let go. However, there is a sensor on the transmission that tells it when to shift as well as a couple of air and cooling sensors. Try having those tested/changed and see if that helps. If not, you may be looking at a new transmission

2000 vw jetta 1.8 automatic shifts hard between 3rd and 4th gear

Shop for a rebuilt transmission, or get an estimate from AAMCO for a rebuild job, but it won't be cheap. Get at least 3 estimates before you decide how to proceed. Good luck.

2002 jetta tdi automatic transmission

Unless you have a check engine light on or other electrical warning for the transmission chances are the transmission is failing and needs an overhaul.
