Need a fuel injector schematic for a 1988 maxima

I have a 1988 Maxima that quit while driving. Getting spark and has compression, so I tried a bit of starting fluid - and it starts for a sec, with that. So, I have a fuel problem. It's putting out a code 21 (fuel pump) but the fuel pump is delivering plenty of pressure. Checked the regulator, and it's functioning correctly. Leaving the injectore. When cranking, they are NOT making any clicking sound (or feel). My HAynes manual does not include a schematic for the injector circuit, so I'm attempting to do it the old fashion way - pulling off all the wire wrap, and tracing the wires. BUT it would be so much easier with a schematic.

BBB Industries should list schematics back to 1986.

SOURCE: SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT FOR 97 MAXIMA

Well, it is usually cheaper then having a shop do it for you. But it will require you to have some tools. In this case probable a 10mm and 5/8 spark plug socket and 6 inch extension and ratchet.

Other than that, you should be good to go.

SOURCE: 1998 nissan maxima removing long axle

It odes not matter if the car is in gear or neutral. The r/h side axle is kind of a pain to remove. You will need a long extention and 12mm swiwle end socket and a ratchet. You need to remove the 3 bolts on the side of the support bearing to get the axle out of the support bearing bracket. Those bolts are a pain in the *** to get to. You have to be looking at then from underneith the transmission. Remove those bolts. Then you will need a big punch an a hammer to spin the bearing in the support to free it up enough to get it out. This is not really a job, that you want to be laying on your back doing it and its not exactly a job for a person, that doesn't work on cars or is machanically inclined. Anyhow, good luck and let me know how you made out.

SOURCE: This Haynes book is garbage. Drivebelt(both) replacement

The Haynes manual is a little too generalized for specific repairs although it is good for a basic idea. The tensioner should be a bracket style tensioner not a spring load.If it is a bracket style tensioner usually there is a bolt going through the center that would need to be loosened before you loosen the tension bolt.If there is no tensioner on this belt then look for the engine accessory with the adjustment slot or tensioner built on to one of the bolts, more than likely it will be the power steering pump if this design is anything like the 1991.This is a very tight, akward job and will require alot of patience.

Won't start but when I spray started fulid it will but it's getting gas and fire what can be wrong with my car

You need four things to start and run and engine.

1. Fuel
2. Air
3. Spark
4. Compression

If it will start with starting fluid, then you have 2, 3, and 4. Even though you may have fuel pressure to the rail, up to the injectors, if they aren't firing (which seems to be the case here), then you have no fuel in reality. You need to investigate why there appears to be no injector pulse(s). The computer obviously have all the data it needs since it is supplying spark. Often, anti-theft/immobilizer systems will use the fuel cutoff method to disable the vehicle. It may be one path to look at.

1999 Nissan Maxima wont turn over. It cranks, but wont start. It isnt the battery cause its new. My friend said it may be an electrical problem or fuel pump. How can i determine if i am getting a spark? My...

Need three (3) things for an Internal Combustion Engine to run, FUEL, COMPRESSION, & IGNITION. To check spark, pull a plug wire and connect to a spark plug that is sitting on a metal (grounded) surface and crank the engine over. You should see a spark on the plug. If there's no spark present you have narrowed it down to an Ignition Problem, but there's still a mulitude of potential problems that'd cause that. Fuel injected engines do require much more fuel pressue than carb'd engines, so that may need to be checked (external fuel pressure gage) if there is a spark present.

1999 Maxima: have to hold gas pedal to floor to keep car runnin...

Blue smoke means your oil is leaking past your piston rings. It is being compressed with the air and fuel and burning which causes the blue smoke. Odds are is your piston rings are worn out and your not getting proper compression so your not getting power. basically your motor has to be rebuilt. You can also try engine oil restore that you can get at any local auto parts store. It is supposed to seal up piston rings and restore compression and power. Try it first. Your other option is bad fuel filter not letting you get enough gas. Clogged injectors, bad plugs and wires. There are many things that can cause this situation. Start with your cheaper options first.

Hello and thanks for using FixYa!

The distributor helps determine spark and injector pulse. I would have that checked as a possibility to your problem.

Thanks Jay!

get a proper spark tester. it can look like the car has spark but it could be too weak to jump the spark plug gap. it needs a proper tester to make sure you have the 20,000 volts needed.
