I found that the anti theft in the ignition was the source of the problem. Changed the ignitiion, bought a new key. Ten points have to touch in order for the anti theft not to lock you out. When it does....you have to wait ten minutes to re-try. After the third time you are resetting the passcode. Last year to get past the initial problem I used a small electrical heater and placed it on the floor board under the ignition switch to wwarm the switch before starting. Worked every time!

I have since changed the ignition switch which is designed to last only five to seven years. So far it is starting in the cold. The key does need to be warm in order to touch all ten points, so blowing warm air on the key helps in the cold. The key is metal and the ignition expands and contracts in the cold. So warmer is better. Good luck.

2004 Saturn Ion. No power at fuse 11 (ignition), fuse good. Vehicle does not crank.

After you disconnect the battery, you have to reset the security system. The immobilizer is stopping the car from starting.

2004 Saturn ion. Car won’t start. Battery seems to be good, cuz all dash lights come on. Car won’t crank.

Does the starter make a noise when you crank it? If not, first make sure you have 12+ volts in the battery and good battery connections. If the battery has less that 9 volts, then replace the battery. Try using a jumper box or a set of jumper cables from another vehicle to start the car. If you can see the starter, have someone strike it with a hammer while turning the key to the crank position. If it starts, replace the starter.

2002 Saturn SL1, 72K miles. Hasn't been driven in

Single click? More battery is needed. Id change the battery, or slow charge it.
Might also be the security system shutting down the starter. Common on GM vehicles. Heres a link on that. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

TURNING KEY TO START 2004 SATURN VUE. MUST TRY MULTIPLE TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. REPLACED THE BATTERY STILL HAVE PROBLEM. WHEN TAKEN TO AUTO REPAIR SHOP THEY CANNOT FIND PROBLEM..NEED HELP

you may have a bad starter relay, or bad starter colenoid, best solution, have starter relay checked, if good, replace starter, does it click when you try to start?but won't? clicking indicates bad battery connections, bad starter colenoid, or simply bad starter. sometimes it's better to replace the whole starter, considering how much it costs to check all the above. suggest that you have battery checked for free at autozone or advance automotive for free. if battery checks good, replace starter. if you accept my solution and it works, let me know via fixya.com and thank you for choosing fixya.com

My saturn ion 2004, hasn't started in a couple of months. I've tried everything from checking the engine, batterie and got a new one, the ignition, starter, checked it on a computer and still it won't...

Did you check if the fuel system is working?, have a look at it and make sure you got enough fuel pressure for the injectors, if the problem still exists have a look at the timing belt.

2004 Saturn Ion. Starting issue. Replaced battery and ignition switch. Still have same problem. Have not been able to start the car since 02/05/10. What could be the problem?

if not rolling over you need a new starter which is a resonable price.if rolling over you could need plugs or wires or coil.if it is tryin to start it is either gas or electric problem.if not running at all it is definetly a new starter will have you up and running.i hope this is some help to you.

Car won't start, new battery, starter ok, just won't kick over Saturn 2004, 80,000 miles, oil change 2 months ago,

If the starter/Battery are ok.Check for spark by pulling off a sparkplug wire, have someone try to start hold wire near sparkplug tip you'll hear the spark jump to the plug tick..tick..tick..sound.Be carefull to hold wire just far enough to hear spark, also this is the secondary circuit from the coil it's high voltage wear a glove. If you smell gas youre geting gas if no spark it is 1 of the following.Bad Coil, or ignition modulator, crack in distributer, cracked wires that cause spark to not reach plugs.Good Luck.

93 Saturn SL starting issue

Yea , I would say try changing out the starter ( which has a solenoid on it btw,) and that may be the cause of the whole issue, If you already changed out the alternator which I just discovered is a real chore in itself... try to change the starter out then .. looks like a similar task... where you have to go from the bottom ( underside ) of the car to get to it. Have fun Good Luck!
