If old van you have a carb. Jet plugged with trash. If you have fuel injection or throttle body injection, one or more of your jets is partially blocked. Try a cleaner added to your fuel tank. May end up replacing the part/s
I actually had to replace my EGR valve and the gasket. I clean the valve well and reused both. I don't think the gasket sealed well enough though. So I went ahead and got a new valve, gasket and changed them. It runs a lot smoother now.
This sounds like a classic case of either a dirty/faulty IAC (Idle Air Control) motor or a sticking EGR valve. If you can prevent it from stalling by keeping your fot on the gas slightly and it always restarts right away and runs good when restarted, I'd suspect the IAC first. If it "chugs"when stopping and will run rough even with a little (not a lot) of gas pedal and/or it runs rough when restarted, I'd suspect the EGR.
I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.
sounds like you may have a problem with your Idle air control valve, located on the throttle body. this is what controls the idle when coming to a stop or stopped and turning corners or basically when your foot is not on the gas pedal
Sounds like it's your IAC (idel air control sensor). The IAC is a computer-controlled air bypass valve located in the throttle body. It helps control idle speeds by allowing air to bypass the throttle plates as to increase the idle speed. If the IAC isn't working properly the car will stall when you are not pressing the gas pedal. It is located on your throttle body and is relatively cheap and a simple change since it is normally held in my two screws. Let me know if you have any other questions.
