SOURCE: What is a P 431

p431 = Warm up Catalyst effiiciency below threshold on Bank 2. Most likely you have an O2 sensor that has a defective heating circuit.
p513 = The engine controller has received an invalid key from the Smart Key Immobilizer Module. Unless you had or have the wrong ignition key, this one can be solved on this chat.

Do not drive it 'till you have the problem solved or if you already haven't lost the cylinder head gasket, you will!!
First thing to check is that the fan (s) works. If mechanical and electric fans are good, check the thermostat. In fact, just replace it as it is inexpensive and once overheated they become unreliable.
Make sure the cooling system is full when cold, both in the recovery bottle and in the radiator If it's not full, check for leaks hot and cold..
If you have any unexplained coolant loss and see white smoke from the exhaust, the head gasket has failed. If you have a 4.0 engine, also be aware that they develop micro-cracks in the cylinder head (problem began in about 2000 but there are still a few showing up) All heads from 2000 and up should be magnafluxed to prevent re-use and immediate failure after a head gasket has been replaced.
Your radiator needs to be flow tested as well but at 5yrs old, unless there is a huge amount of minerals in the water in your location, likely it's good.
Work from the easy items up to the more difficult, unless you see something that definitely has a problem. If you have a question about what you find, just ask. If you have no experience it is a good idea to buy a chilton or haynes manual before beginning. That will save you lots of time and aggravation!

SOURCE: 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt in "limp home mode" code 606

P0606 indicates Control module internal performance. GM is indicating of the replacement ECM. Once replacement is completed reprogramming the ecm is necessary. Locally a few auot parts stores can reflash the ECM.May want to check with a NAPA or Carquest for this otherwise dealer is probably the only option.

  • Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  • jsmes1027_30.gif
  • Disconnect the small engine control module (ECM) harness connector (3) from the ECM.
  • Remove the bolt retaining the large ECM connector to the ECM.
  • Disconnect the large ECM harness connector (4) from the ECM.
  • jsmes1027_31.gif
Notice: Control module damage may result when the metal case contacts battery voltage. DO NOT contact the control module metal case with battery voltage when servicing a control module, using battery booster cables or when charging the vehicles battery.
  • Use the retaining tab to release the ECM from the underhood junction block bracket.

  • Reverse process for installation

1999 Jeep Cherokee. The transmission will not shift past second gear. It is stuck in Limp Mode?

Yes, that is the whole idea of Limp Mode. It limits you to first and second gear so you can limp slowly to the nearest garage without causing catastrophic damage to the engine. What you need to do is connect a good quality DTC code reader scan tool and see the real reason that Limp Mode has been engaged.

2007 PT CRUISER TURBO p0700 u0101 p1603 intermittenet limp mode turn engine off and restart and runs normal for awhile ck engine light off and on sporadically

It is hard to say without looking at it. I use a professional scan tool to look at live date and perform some tests. If shutting the vehicle off does reset the system then it may be a fluid level, temperature, pressure or internal transmission control component to blame. How does the transmission fluid look (Is it clean and red)? How is the transmission fluid level? The transmission filter does have a life expectancy. Was the transmission fluid and filter serviced on time? I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need additional information. Good Luck.

What would cause code P1603 to occur on 2005 Jeep Rubicon

I have an 05 6 cylinder automatic TJ. The other morning I was getting trouble codes U0101 and P1603. For a few seconds the Jeep was shaking and for the entire 30min ride it wouldn't shift into the last gear, it would just continue to rev. The next day I drove it and it was fine. I also noticed a slight high pitch whine noise coming from the engine at low speeds. Any suggestions? Thanks!
