My 95 prizm burns a little oil. when looking at the motor the first plug wire on left i pull it out and there's oil all around it. the other ones are spotless. do you think it would be the small rubber o ring at the top of the valve cover that i guess creates a seal between the two?

Clean the mass airflow sensor (or replace it outright) and change your oxygen sensor. Those are very big contributors to fuel mileage. Also, verify that the new plugs are gapped correctly.

CHECK FUEL PRESSURE AND FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR.YOUR FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 38 - 44 PSI.IF FUEL SYSTEM GOOD.YOU COULD HAVE BAD OR STOPPED UP FUEL INJECTORS.TRY CLEANING FUEL INJECTORS FILL GAS TANK UP.PUT A BOTTLE OF INJECTION CLEANER IN FUEL TANK.DRIVE CAR AROUND THE BLOCK.OR DRIVE A FEW MILES SO THE INJECTOR CLEANER CAN FLUSH OUT THE INJECTORS.IF THIS DONT WORK.SCAN IT FAULTY INJECTOR FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER AND IDLE SPEED CONTROL.

SOURCE: Head Gasket?? Valve cover Gasket???

most likely it is the valve cover gasket. it covers the valve train where there is alot of oil to lube the top of the motor. if the head gasket was leaking it may have more signs of running poorly. also having coolant leaks also. so i will have to say valve cover gasket. now usally you may have a oil burning smell with it depending on the area of the lek but not always.

the valve cover can easily be seen when the hood is open. it is right on the top and where it meets the clyinder head is where the gasket is and the leak can be seen.

if you have more question please ask.

95 prizm driver side brake light work passenger

illl assume its not dim, at night, a key check, in all cases like this.
the lamp is bad. (used lamps can have a shorted base so only NEW lamps work best)
the socket is bad. (corroded
the wires are cut by trailer hitch goons, (wire hackers (look and see)
its not the fuse or the switch, the problem from the harness at left rear of right rear.
the signal harness usually feeds left then right side.
so the wire from there to there can in fact fail, or be collision damage
or trailer hitch hacked.. right there.

Where is the fuseable link in a 95 meto

Most likely not a fuse link rather it is the plug that plugs into the fuse block located under the dash panel right above your left foot. Follow the wires from the column down to the fuse block . Unplug it and look for a burnt connection you can wire around it with little difficulity . I usally take the block out and solder a wire in to the back then clip that burnt wire and conect them together and problem is solved. Tip some dielectric grease on all plugs make them easy to reconnect and avoids further burnouts . Good luck

1999 Chevy astro van 4.3 2 wheel drive. Its blowing thick black smoke, 1 year ago the distributer cap wires were / sparkplugs were changed because of a rough idle at the dealers. It solved the problem...

these are known for distributor caps and rotors going bad, also if this is a vortec motor they also have a problem with the injectors leaking in the intake manifold causing pooling of fuel and a rich running condition,on the side with the leaking injectors.check for any codes and take a look at the map sensor.these should be checked out.

I mixed the distributor cables up,so i need the order to correctly connect

If the wires are still in the distributer, AND, if you have a stock intake manifold, the firing order is on the manifold. If it's a V-8, the number 1, 3, 5, & 7 plugs are on the drivers side of the engine. The number 2, 4, 6, & 8 plugs are on the passenger side. The number 1 plug wire can be located by looking at the distributer from the front of the engine and visually looking between the distributer and the number 1 plug. Visualize the distributer as a clock. The number one position should be located between 4 and 5 o'clock and should have the longest wire of those on that side of the distributer.

If the wires have been pulled from the distributer, then, then, remove the rotor cap, turn the engine over slowly until the rotor is pointing to the number 1 plug. Using the firing order on the intake manifold, starting with number 1, replace the wires going clockwise around the distributer.

My 99 Chevy Prizm uses a quart of oil about every 300 miles. No leaks or smoke. Any ideas?

Well, if you don't have any leaks then your car is using oil somehow. Thats a lot of oil to be loosing so I would start be pulling out all the spark plugs and checking to see if they look normal. Normal is a nice tan color. Not normal would have lots of white ash or black sooty material. If thats the case, you'll likely have to tear down the motor to fix it.

What is the tire size on a 99- prizm. i bought this prizm with 62k, i had it about a year and a half, it uses about 1-qt. oil every 1000 miles theres no sign of leakage ( engine is clean ), and it does not...

call a tire shop or the dealer for the exact tire size. The oil has to be going somewhere. If it's not leaking it's burning. check the plugs for oil, ck for mixture of anti freeze & oil mixing together, if it runs hot/ overheats it may be a head gasket. Or a crank or cam seal that's leaking only while driving. Have it checked, the system is supposed to be sealed.

Check Engine Light on 2000 Prizm

Most likely replacing the O2 sensor will fix this code, but that is not 100%, it could be other issues like a vacuum leak or a MAF sensor. The O2 is the one in front or on the engine side of the catalytic converter.
