hi from uk the timing belt renewal is relatively not too difficult for mech minded diy er but would advise you obtain haynes or w/shop manual read section re belt change b4 you start ? also it is good policy here in uk to do belt change as a kit which is new belt and tensioner if you feel confident /inspired ? on saving $$$$$s in garage charges then why not ? if you set timing marks up b4 dismantling and ensure you turn engine clockwise 360 deg's by hand after renewing belt and retensioning as the manual explains should be ok but read instructions and pictures b4 hand at least twice ? think positive! and if you req advice come back to board hope fully? with success? wish you merry xmas and good luck

TIMING CHAIN CHANGE

hyundai recommends replacing the belt every 60,000 miles or 48 mos and this is an "interference" engine which means if the belt breaks, it will cause internal engine damage. happy holidays

When should timing belt be changed on hyundai accent, also what are indications that it is going bad

Hyundai recommends changing the timing belt every 60K miles. As far as symptoms go, a timing belt won't give a lot of warming prior to breaking but a few would be extremely rough idling and misfiring. You should know that a broken timing belt often will do damage to the engine. I hope you find this answers your question. All the best!

Go to the autozone website at autozone.com and register your car. It's free and will give you access to an online repair manual for your car. The steps and procedures for changing the timing belt can be found there. ( I checked). Hope this helped and best wishes.

DID THE BELT BREAK AND THEN IT WAS CHANGED. If so then you may have bent valve. IF NOT then vehicle may be timed wrong. 2002 Hyundai Accent Problem

first thing i need to know is did the timing belt break?
second is are you sure you aligned the timing marks and after the belt tensioner was tight you rechecked to make sure the timing stayed where you had it.
next step would be a compression check to if a valve was bent whenchanging the belt
i have seen this happen and this engine is an interferance engine.
