I had the same problem with my 2008 Outlook. The pressure pad is the area that gets pressed when you pull up on the handle to open the liftgate. A wire leading up to this pad broke off.
The pad is called a "GMC Acadia Saturn Outlook Rear Lift Gate Open / Release Latch Switch Pad new OEM". $17 on ebay.
To open your liftgate when the touchpad is not working, do the following:
1.Remove the cover plug that is located on the interior panel of the liftgate. It’s at the bottom, just below the two interior lights.
2.Looking through the plug opening, you’ll be able to see the small lever shown in the picture.
3.Take a flat blade screw driver and push the lever back towards the back of the car.
The door will click open.
Then you can remove the interior panel and access the touchpad.
I had the same problem it turned out to be a defective pressure pad in the tailgate. Mine would open while driving. The dealership changed under warranty and no problem to date.

My liftgate latch is malfunctioning also, I've had it refuse to open- we had to crawl in and open from the inside. It's also been unlocking/latching itself - on it's own- we have to stop and get out and re-close it.
I have this same problem. Is there a fix for this?
I have a Ford Escape wit the same issue
