For the 2.4L 4 cylinder engine the cylinders are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 starting from the front of the engine and the firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2.

For the 3.1L 6 cylinder engine the cylinders are numbered 1, 3, 5, for the head near the firewall and 2, 4, 6 for the head towards the front of the car and the firing order is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. This engine has a coil pack with 3 coils were the spark plug wires connect to. Starting from the left side these spark plug terminals are numbered 1, 4, 6, 3, 2, 5. Hope this helps you.

I need the firing order & diagram on the distributer cap to the spak plugs

If your engine is a V6 I need to know the size to help you.

If its the V8 engine the firing order should be 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 in the order of rotation on the distributor (clockwise) Your model should have the # 1 marked on the cap and as long as no one has had the distributor out and put it back in a little off, It should be where its marked. If its not marked by the hold down for the wires to the cap, then (all things being correct) you should have the number 1 pointing towards the front. Number 1 normally points to the number 1 cylinder. On GM cars the furthest forward head is the Odd bank and the other head the Even bank. So the furthest forward bank would be 1 3 5 7 and the other side of the engine is 2 4 6 8.

I dont have a picture but this explination should help.
Hope this helps you get going again.

Firing order, 1990 Pontiac Grand am 2.5 l, 4 cyl

Its 1342 or 1432 To guarantee correct firing order take plugs out and place your finger/thumb over the plug hole so you can feel the compression cycle.Have some one flick the key on and off slowly .As soon as No 1 has done its compression cycle the next cylinder to compress will be in the firing order. You only need to test 2 clinders to tell you which one of the two firing orders ive given you.good luck and let me know how it goes
