I have a 2003 Accord. The sun visor on the driver's side has been extended out, as allowed, and now refuses to retract on it's shaft. Is there a way to do this or do I have a broken visor? Thank you!

look up in the corner of the visor where it mounts.. usually there is a small screw there .. raise the visor up in place and tighten the screw..it should stay up..if not ..use a bit of velcro on the visor and the headliner above it..cheap fix but it works..also invest in a windshield cover they are only a few bucks and work for other uses also.. they make a great emergency mat if you need to look under the car on naty ground(rain, snow, mud,etc)

There are little plastic caps that cover the mounting flanges. Use a small flat blade screw driver to release the cover and that will expose your mounting flange.

Screw a small self taping screw just inside the hinge pivot. this can help tighten the visor to the pivot.

has the visor got a slider for the mirror,if so, close it when not in use if not change it for a solid tinted plexiglass visor(no mirror) sorry but females will need to use central mirror for makeup..i am not a sexist by the way .........

Numerous consumers have reported problems with their driver's side sun visor suddenly dropping and blocking visibility, which presents a safety issue. (See: Nissan Murano .ORG, townhall-talk.edmunds.com, www.titantalk.com...etc.)

In almost all cases, Nissan is passing the cost of replacement onto the consumer for this defective product, and has refused to take responsibility, or to issue a recall. I've gone through three replacements myself with no relief from Nissan, and the third one has now failed.

I encourage everyone who is experiencing a mechanical failure with their driver's side sun visor to put pressure on Nissan to correct this problem by filing a report with:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (888) 327-4236 (you will need your VIN#);
Bureau of Automotive Repair (800) 952-5210;
Used Car Sales- Department of Motor Vehicles (800) 777-0133(or your local DMV investigations office listed in your phone book);
Department of Consumer Affairs (800) 952-5210 Recalls; and
Better Business Bureau- Autoline (800) 955-5100.

You also might want to consider filing a small claims court action, or class action lawsuit.

A NISSAN TECHNICIAN, HIMSELF, HAS POSTED THIS ON THE TOPIC: "NISSAN TECH HERE! YOUR GOLD PREFERED WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER THE SUN VISOR. THIS ISSUE YOUR HAVING IS COMMON ON THESE MURANOS AND I'VE REPLACED QUITE A FEW VISORS!"

Already reported as being a repetitive problem with Murano vehicule owner eventhough they have it alreay replaced.
You can fight as long as you want with your dealer that this is a security issue no recall has been expressed about that so far.

I can say that some people switched the passenger side one with the driver side with little of convenience. I can't say more personnally.
The permanent fix being approx $250 unless you get it one in a scrap yard not knowing how long will be its life time! Up to you to make the decision.

I have a 2003 Murano that just started having this problem a few weeks ago. As a quick fix, my husband and I switched the driver's side sun visor with the passenger's side sun visor (yes, everything is backwards now, but it's a minor inconvenience). It was very simple to do, and only took about 5 minutes. The cover pops right off to reveal two screws that hold the unit in place. Anyone could do it.
Meanwhile, we are searching local junkyards to try to find a replacement to avoid having to pay $250 (+) for a replacement visor.

a creative solution is to use velcro tape. a piece on the visor and a matching piece on the roof liner

go to a dealership with a screwdriver and your broken sun visor in hand. take out a nissan murano with an interior that matches yours for a test drive and perform a switch on the sun visors. install your broken visor in place of the one that works, and take the one that works out of the car that your test driving.

Problem solved, its free, and you didn't have to get creative to fix the problem. Plus, they can't blame you for a broken visor considering that they fail in these cars all the time. You're welcome!!!

yes there is a screw in it

inside the sun visor there is a spring which is moving to side when you push down the spring pushes side so it will keep down when you want to push to the normal possition spring releces and keep to that possition any way i would like to advice you to replace sun visor.
