On my 93 nissan pickup with the ka24 engine I have an issue with it surging between 1500 to 2200 rpms. and while driving down the road it seems there is a dead spot on the throttle. I have replaced the tps sensor and that didnt fix it.

we need vastly more symptoms then that,sorry
if the engine surges, that is first. (surges in 1 gear)
but if a transmission down shifts that is normal, rpm rises
(after all its a lower gear) (higher numeric ratio)
find any machanic in town
ask him test drive it.!
10 min.later he wilt tell you
its trans issues.
or its engine, super easy this is driving.
seems you can not, and learning is 1hour in car class..or 10x that lacking facts of drive train functions.
stop guessing. why spend cash on a useless sensor now.
spend cash on $1 shop diagnosis and WIN.

I got a 85 nissan 720 4x4 2.4, with Weber,never had a issue with my timing chain,got a remanufactured Jasper motor, now have 55,000 miles on it,truck has 343,000 on speedo,had it since 93.Here's a link on a repair guide for your timing chain. Possibly be a problem with the egr valve if it has one fitted I would check on line to see if your model was fitted with one it normally is the cause if car goes into limp mode
It seems the timing needs some tuning. Also all plugs need to be checked and changed if possible. It seems to be misfiring and a proper tune up job should solve the problem(including the plugs)...........sodeep
