Where, specifically is the camshaft sensor located on a 1998 4liter 6 cylinder ford ranger

it is on the cam shafts for sure. some have 2.

4.0L V6 rod engine, not SOHC nor DOHC engine.
you been taking to folks with new cars the telling you lies?
back to year 1998? 24 years wrong.??? seems so to me.
looking for what does not exist at all.( how fun is that?)_
learn to read your manual and not rumors for 2010 up cars
this spark system used what is called wasted spark.(tech)
3 coils run 6 spark plugs and no cam sensor is ever needed to do that here, ever. (that is no distributor, ,NO SOHC, , no DOHC)
that is how it works why not post a real problem and not
a silly hunt to zero possible answers.

https://eautorepair.net/Marketing/Default.asp

this is covered in the SM service manual
8 page of schematic 4.0L v6

proof this is all there is. to spark period. a coil pack.
this is primary side HV side has 6 LUGS HV.
yes CKP sensor bottom(crank)
no CMP cam sensors needed nor wanted here.

1998 ford ranger xlt 3.0 auto/ac 2wheel Now have clickingsound. I know probably push rods. But do u need to replace rocker, cam, cam followers at the same time.

have it checked out professionally as it may be worn rocker arm bushes/shaft or push rods as you say
unless there is cam damage ( rare ) then it is not necessary to replace the cam shaft.
cam followers may be hydraulic and can be checked

I have 2002 Ford ranger 2.3l n I broke two teeth on the harmonic balancer that the sensor reads I assume will this stop the engine from starting?

most definitely
there has to be set pulses for the position sensor to work
normally both the crank position sensor and the cam shaft position sensor work together and send signals to the ECM and if one signal is not in sync with the other , the ecm thinks something is wrong and shuts down the engine.

Where is the cam shaft senser on a ford ranger 2.5 td 2002

Ford did not put a 2.5 in a Ranger, maybe a 2.3 ?
2.3 = 2007-01-27_154722_2.gif
3.0 - The CMP sensor& synchronizer/shaft are located behind the intake manifold (i.e., back near the firewall on a Ranger) on the top of the cylinder block. If you just need to replace the sensor, it is a simple job of unplugging the electrical connector and removing the screws holding the sensor in place. Here is a sketch of the sensor to give you an idea what to look for:

Camshaft sensor is chirpping

Hi, welcome to FixYa.com my name is Shawn and I will be answering your question.

It is not the cam sensor it is the cam syncronizer that needs to be replaced. That is the piece driven by the cam shaft that the cam sensor sits on.

I hope my assistance helped you and resolved your concern, if you need further assistance please ask.

1997 ford ranger cam shaft position sensor

If you have the 3.0 L or 4.0 L V6 engine, the cam position sensor is located on the top rear of the engine. If you have the 2.3 L 4 cyl. engine, you will find it on the left front of the engine behind the oil pump pulley.
