Tip & How-To about Saturn SL1

Dead side marker light socket on Saturn sedan

This was on a '93 Saturn SL1, but I'm sure that other years have very similar issues. You'll need a small torx to open this thing. That's a pretty cheap tool, kind of looks like a gear or star on the end. You can get them at car parts stores, whether as a screwdriver type or a little doohickey to put on your socket wrench. I'm afraid I don't remember the size right now. You just unscrew it and pivot one end out, then it all comes out. I seem to recall the socket comes out of the fixture with a half turn. First thing is to check the bulb and see if it's good. If not, easy to replace. Your owner's manual will tell you the type, plus there are books in the stores. If the bulb isn't the problem, it may be corrosion. Try to clean everything off as best you can, maybe with WD40 to dry it out, and then put in a bit of Corrosion Block (boat stores) or ACF 50 (Aircraft Spruce, online). This is good stuff. I'm thinking silicone dielectric compound or similar, which can be had in little packets at the car parts store, might also work. When replacing the bulb, work it back and forth a bit to scrape off any crud from the socket or bulb wires. Be careful, though, because the wires on the bulb are delicate.

If this doesn't work, it turns out that on my Saturn, at least, the socket is a standard item carried by the car parts store. Cut it off with a bit of wire remaining and take it to the store to match it. Then put it back on with solder or wire nuts. Use that self sealing electrical tape to protect it. Easy job.

I have a 93 saturn sl1 and its getting too much gas, what controls the fuel that the fuel injecter sprays?

A fuel pressure regulator is located on the injector rail. It generally looks like a round chrome or black diaphragm with a vacuum line attached.
This is what controls the amount of fuel the injector get. They are fairly simple to replace, just shut off the car, make sure that you have released all the pressure in the fuel rail and then remove the regulator by removing the 2 (Generally 2) mounting screws and the vacuum line. Re install in reverse order and that's it.

where is the location of the heater blower motor on a 1994 saturn sl1? Do I have to tear the dash out?

No need to tear the dash out. The blower is located above the passenger's feet, below the glove compartment. You access it from underneath. Three small black bolts hold it on and there is a two wire electrical connector on the bottom that must be removed. The motor drops down with the fan blade attached. Should take about 5 or 10 minutes to remove.

I have a '93 SL2 and the interior is the same as an SL1 or 2 from '92, '93, '94 and maybe even a '95.
