Tip & How-To about 1991 Jeep Wrangler
Here's the step by step:
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Jack it up. You're going underneath so chock the wheels and use jack stands. Be safe.
Remove all wires from the solenoid.
Depending
on your flexibility, it may be easier to drop the starter before
removing the wires. If you do, don't let it hang by the wires.
On a 4.0, there is an oil cooler line bracket on the exhaust brace.
Remove it.
Remove all but one attaching bolts from the starter. Loosen the last one.
The starter is heavy, support it and pull the last bolt.
Slide the starter out of the mounting hole and lower it down.
While you're down there inspect the flywheel teeth for damage.
