How do you replace a headlight bulb on a 1986
Pop your headlights up 3 clicks on the nob in the cockpit, they will remain popped up though switched off. This is valet mode and stops them shutting unexpectedly on your fingers.
Take off the metal cover on the pop up using star torque tools and you will have access to the rear of the light unit. The bulb is under the black rubbery boot you have to twist it out and it may be rather stiff with age etc... Good luck.
A/C on 1986 MR2 has a leak. Dealer says only way
This depends on where the leak is. Most shops can run an ultraviolet dye through the system to check for the exact leak. This is done with a fluorecent light and can pinpoint just exactly where the leak is coming from, compressor, condenser, etc. Then you can decide what part to replace.

Be sure that the fan is moving enough air across the radiator and be sure the radiator is clear of any debris. If it is and you're sure the system is full of coolant, have the radiator rodded out or replaced. This is most likely the issue. Hope this helps, good luck!

Window regulator chatters
you'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the
panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want
to break them. Then pull back the weather seal
(can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to
access everything.
1986 toyota mr2 interior lights is off
Before you start looking a the fuse box, make sure of 2 things: do you have power and a good ground at the light housing. Then, make sure that the door switches are grounded good, and are actually working. If no power, get back to me and I will get you to the fuse box, altho I doubt that the fuse box is the root cause.
Ive checked the earth wires and connections for
FIND YOUR FUEL PUMP RELAY IT SENDS POWER TO PUMP WHEN THE PRESSURE IN YOUR FUEL INJECTOR RAIL IS LOW IF YOU HAVE NO POWER THERE THEN CHECK THE SENSORS ON THE FUEL RAIL IT IS A TWO WIRE SWITCH THAT IS NORMALLY OPEN MEANING THE SWITCH IS OFF UNTIL THE PRESSURE DROPS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GOOGLE A SCHEMATIC TO SHOW YOU WERE THE RELAY IS IF NOT CALL THE DEALER OR A PART STORE AND ASK
91 mr2. no power 2 the fuel pump. checked relays
When you say you have checked the relays and fuses i hope you checked to see if they have power getting to them. Besides that The most frequent cause of problems is simply a bad contact in wiring connectors. Always check that connections are secure. Inspect the contacts for bent pins or corroded. You may also want to inspect the ground side of the circuit. If everything checks out then you have a bad fuel pump.
A few issues... '86 MR2
Hi, James.
Your description sounds very much like a slipping alternator belt. The squealing is common when cold because the rubber is harder when cold. The battery needing a charge after every use also sounds like a possibility. The fact that when you are experiencing this problem, the car doesn't seem to rev up (which is what I understood from your description) also fits as a symptom for a slipping alternator belt, bad alternator, etc...
I'm also not surprised if your alternator light is not coming on, because when I had my '86 MR-2, I had a similar problem, which turned out to be that a contact point had cracked in the circuit that is behind the instrument cluster causing all kinds of missed alerts from the car (for example, I never knew when the car was running hot because the temperature gauge would not come on, and the check engine light had been on for as long as I had the car, but I didn't know because the instrument cluster was not working properly. When I fixed the instrument cluster, I discovered the car's computer had ben sending me all kinds of error codes without me knowing).
The good news about this is that this is your project car, and as such, you are probably not in a spot where you may be late for work because of this problem with your battery getting drained.
The bad news is that MR-2's are getting harder to come by for parts, so you may end up having to order them through the web.
I miss my MR2, so I hope this helps you as it helped me.
Power Steering Leak. 1986 Toyota Cressida
The power steering system is very simple check all of these and you will find it. the pump has a high pressure line and a low/ return line. check for leaks in the line fill-up with fluid with some ne inside turning steering when looking for leaks if none in line check rack and pinnion/gear box. Its just (4) components to check Pump, reservoir, Lines(pressureline/ return line) rack and pinion. Good Luck
Key won't turn on ognition
If the key is stuck in your ignition, try turning your steering wheel hard in both directions while twisting your key gently in both directions. The steering wheel lock may be putting back pressure on your ignition switch causing it to bind and this in-turn stops you from being able to turn your key.
If you can slide your key in and out of your ignition, then your key may be worn and the cylinder cannot be twisted by the humps on the key...check to see if your key shows signs of wear...ie. shinny sides and deep marks. If this is the case you will have to have keys made for your car. It may be easy to do if you have T-Tops, you can take a top off and bring it to a lock smith. They can make a key to fit your ignition in about an hour and it should cost about $25-$35. I had to have that doen for my 1991 MR2. Hope this helps!
