Very unlikely. Everything works from cylinder number 1 being at TDC on firing stroke. Crankshaft position sensor and Camshaft position sensor have to be in synch. If you have had the battery disconnected for working on it, there is a relearning process that takes a while.

maybe it needs a good old fashioned tuneup or get it scanned to see whats going on with it. how olds the air filter?

That doesn't sound like an ignition coil. And coils are not expensive, about $20 for most of them. There may be an ignition control module on the car (which is used to control the coil's circuit for causing spark) but I'm not sure that is what you mean.
