1999 Saturn SL2 DOHC Engine - Fuel pump not pumping fuel.

Got into my Saturn SL2 and it would not crank. No fuel was being pumped by the fuel pump (180,000 miles - original fuel pump). Checked fuses -- ok, replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Fuel pump is still not pumping fuel.

The Saturn Fuel pump relay and fuse is located undar the panes on the passenger side of the center console near the passengers left foot there are two relays there that look identical one is fuel pump relay. Just switch them around they are bot the same and see if the fuel pump runs now also the fuel pump fuse is in there i can't send diaagrams on fixya because their program will not let them go through if you need one email me at [email protected] Please give me a fixya rating if this information is helpful to you

Vibration in Steering Column at Idle

I am in the process of purchasing a ''93 Saturn SL2 which appears to be in good shape except for a couple known, cheap repairs and a significant vibration in the steering column at idle. When I''m stopped at a red light with the engine in gear, the steering wheel vibrates significantly. This is my first Saturn, and I''ve read some reviews that say this model is known for a rather rough ride, but I don''t know if this particular vibration is normal or not. Once I''m driving again, the vibration in the wheel goes away (at least enough not to perceive it). I did notice that the rear-view mirror does vibrate a little while driving enough to make the cars behind you look a little shaky.

One of the two known needed repairs is the MAP sensor, according to the OBD codes (the check engine light comes on after three to four minutes of driving). Is there a possibility that it''s the cause (maybe indirectly) for the vibration? What else could be causing it?

(BTW, in case you''re wondering, the other repair is a power window regulator, so I''m pretty sure that''s not related.)

Engine vibration is the cause of this issue, it is the biggest complaint from many owners, changing the engine mounts will help, as mounts age the rubber gets hard and they don't absorb vibration like they should, new mounts help issue, but it will no stop it altogether. A faulty MAF will not cause vibration, just a hesitation on acceleration at times

Saturn SL2 Brake Problems

I have a 1996 Saturn SL-2. I recently changed the front brakes. Everything was fine, up until now. The brake pedal holds pressure periodically. At times, I have to press the pedal to the floor. I checked fluid levels and it seems to be fine, an I get no brake MIL. What seems to be the problem?

1997 Saturn SL2 Coolant Leak

Basically my check coolant light has come on, I checked the coolant fill tank and it was a little low. I topped it off to the fill line and ran the engine it circulated fine.

1 day later I drove about 45 miles to a different town, and ive done a little running around for errands.my check coolant light has come back on and is now low.

I put some water in it while the engine was off of course and I can now see it dripping slowly out the bottom of my car as soon as I put some water in it.

I guess I'm wondering what problems I'm likely to have. The car is a 1997 not 93 like fixya choose for me...I have someone coming to look at it later but any help would be appreciated.

Your valve body and possibly input shaft nut need to be replaced. The valve body's booster valve is worn down and won't create pressure. Before it went completely out it slammed on the input shaft nut and loosened it.

You need to replace the valve body and retorque the input shaft nut. The transmission is not junk. The above needs to be replaced and change the filter and fluid and do it every 20K miles.

You have to take off the valve pan cover, upper motor mount suport, disconnect power steering pump...you don't need to take it out, just move it out of the way. You will need to take the wheel off of the passager side and take off the plastic covers, take the belt off and the tensioner pully all the way off. then you have access to the timing chain cover. You have 4 bolts on the bottom (oil pan) that are 10mm, 1 bolt in the middle that is 8mm and several on the side of the timing chain cover that is 10mm.You might want to take and support the motor with a hydraulic jack and take the bottom motor mount loose. You will need to take off the harmonic ballancer before you can gain access to the cover, it may require a pulley to get it off. The pump is on the cover, but it requires a torx wrench to get the screws out.You will need an impact driver tool that is hit with a hammer to get them loose; The seal will need to be replaced on that shaft. You will need to sand the surface with fine sand paper on the cover and the block to get a good seal. Use RTV and finger tighten the bolts and let it set about 30 minutes before tightening all the way for a better seal. While you are there you might want to consider the timing chain if it has never been done. If you decide to do that and need any more information for timing marks let me know. A note of importance that most oil pressure is lost due to wear on the main bearings, not a bad oil pump.

The trunk lock on my

The trunk lock on my 93 Saturn SL stopped working yesterday. It will not latch when I close the trunk. I can make the latch close probably with my finger, but not by closing the trunk. The lock strike seems a bit chewed up. Here's what I would like to know: 1. What's the problem? 2.How do I fix it? 3. Can I do this myself? I'm pretty handy. 4.Any gotchas? Thanks.

Hi.

The repair is not difficult. I do not think that you can unlock it with your finger, usually a stuck lock is quite hard to move.

Check the latch mechanism under the trunk lid. If it looks like the latch is rotated toward the left hand side, then the latch is stuck in closed position. That is the reason why the latch does not close.

Spray a good amount of WD-40 on the latch. After lubing the latch try using the key while at the same time operating the trunk opener switch inside the car (ask someone else to help you).

If the latch is damaged or if it does not unlock, or if after unlocking it stays stuck open, then you will need to replace the latch, which is not a difficult operation.

Here instructions:

  1. Unplug the battery ground cable.
  2. Disconnect lock cylinder rod and the release cable from the latch.
  3. Undo the latch screws, disconnect cargo lamp harness.
  4. Remove the latch.
  5. Connect cargo lamp harness to the latch and install the new latch.
  6. Tighten rear compartment latch bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb inch).
  7. Reconnect release cable and lock the cylinder.
  8. Connect back the battery GND cable.
