2005 Saturn SC2 - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Low coolent temp
Low coolant temperature is caused by the thermostat being stuck in the passing position. It usually does this when the thermostat fails. You will need to change your thermostat which isn't a big job depending on where it is located on your vehicle.
Trans slips replaced still slips
- check your "Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor" ECTS, make sure all your connections on the transmission are secured. I would try a bottle of Seafoam, or some Transmission cleaner (as a last resort), or some LubeGard from your auto parts store.
- There like several types of it, check the website Lubegard.com for the specifices on which one to use. I've heard Transmission guys, swear by this stuff, that it will fix a lot of problems.
But I wouldn't try it on a CVT transmission, or any kind of transmission that has a CVT belt drive system.
93 saturn sc2, if airbag light comes on, won't start back up
Have you spilled anything onto the center console? Your air bag computer (SIR module) is under the center console as well as another module called the QDM you could have some corrosion build up on the connectors of those modules. You will have to remove the center console to see them. Other than that I am thinking possible ignition switch problem. Ignition switches can cause funky problems that crop up in multiple electrical systems.
Battery terminal
Run a heavy gauge wire off the starter solenoid,to a new terminal block you use for any add on things & leave the battery cables factory stockSomething like an 8 gauge or 10 gauge wireDo the math on your total amperage, that your adding, for the wire & fusible link sizeAlso use a fusible link coming into the new terminalblock to protect all your adding down stream
I have a 1999 saturn sc2 and got 2 codes p1404 and
Fix the two codes, and it might stop that occasional revving.1404 is a malfunctioning EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation). That code specifically says the pintle is stuck open. This is usually caused by carbon deposits around the lower part of the valve. It will have to be taken off for cleaning or replacement. Use a knife blade or scraper to clean it. The pintle is like a pin on the bottom that raises (valve open) and lowers (valve closed) by vacuum applied to the valve. To remove the valve, remove the small exhaust tube attached to it. Valve is bolted to intake manifold by two screws with a gasket below it. When off, check the passages beneath it for exhaust deposits plugging the passages- if you see a lot, scrape or clean them out as best you can. EGR valves should not be very expensive. If you are unsure yours is good after trying to clean it, you may want to replace it-make sure you get a new gasket with the new one. If the old gasket got broken taking it off, buy a new gasket for it.The code P0711 is for the transmission fluid temperature sensor. Sensor circuit range/performance is all it says. Apparently poor performance of the sensor or circuit as sensed by the computer. Try a new sensor, I would say. I don't know how or if it should be tested.Good luck.
1999 Saturn starts and runs great then shuts off
