The car over heats when driving in town or when

Heat car up and stop in drive with car still running look and see what the fan is doing behind the radiator. That fan needs to bee spinng if the needle is over half way to hot. If fan is not spinning check voltage at the fan if electric should have system voltage. If you have voltage and no fan the fan is bad, if you have don't have voltage there is something else wrong.

Makes a rattling noise when it is in gear and gets

I have a saturn that slightly rattled, I found that my engine mount was bad. The engine chatters because the rubber wasn't holding the engine securely. Not saying this is your problem but something to check out. Called a shop to replace it because I didn't have time to replace, 3 hours labor and part $340. I end up changing it myself in about 7 min. part was $37. Have someone look to see if your engine has any movement when the car is in drive and reverse with the brake on pressing the gas slightly. if so then the mount is bad.

Keyless remote not working

Pop the remote open and replace the battery. if that does not work then look at the other side of the little remote circuit board and very carefully clean the carbon build-up on the contacts, under the rubber buttons. Use a good pencil eraser, nothing more abrasive and be gentle. Snap it back together and 9 out of 10 times you will have a working remote. If not then you may have to go find another one on ebay and have you car reset at a a GM dealer to connect with new remote. A GM dealer can also test your remote for functionality.

Key will not turn from lock position. manual says

Check the neutral lock out switch on the shifter under the center console. The start time is more than likely a different issue. A fuel system tune up wouldn't hurt.

2000 Saturn LS engine problems

There is no common thing. Todays vehicles are high tech and will turn on a check light, once or twice a year. You can expect to pay at least $2000 a year, per vehicle, for preventative maintainance and repairs,if you don't do all your own work.

How can I clear the misfire on #4 cylinder code?

If you have not repaired the #4 mis-fire problem then re-setting or clearing the code will only last until the mis-fire is detected again (maybe only minutes or even seconds depending how bad the mis-fire is), and then the MIL (malfunction indicator light) will be right back on. Try changing the #4 spark plug and ignition wire first, if this does not solve the problem then there might be something more seriously wrong with your engine.

If you do not have a scanner to reset the MIL, then you can reset the MIL by dis-connecting the battery for three minutes and then re-connect the battery, and all of the data trouble codes should be cleared.

I have a Saturn 2002 SL1

Sounds like a dirty IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. It is located on the throttle body. Remove it and clean it throughly as well as the throttle body underside as well where a lot of carbon build up is.

However, since it is such a high idle, check for any vacuum leaks. Check your hoses and lines running inside the engine bay, specifically near the intake. Spray some carb cleaner around while the engine is running to see if you can hear or see a leak. Check the intake gasket as well.
