It depends on the plug that you use. Some are Pre-Gapped.

Trouble Replacing 2004 KIA Spectra thermostat ?
You will need to take off that pipe that is in the way. I can't tell what it is for by the picture or another video on youtube. But looks like heater line. Also, you might try to jack the engine up from underneath (very carefully) It may not need much more room.

IF there is a grinding noise then the motor is trying to move, so take out he unit and try to see if the motor works , if so the mechanism is faulty or the motor does not have power in the drive.
can be the driver switching the motor or the motor itself. Replace after testing the transistor drive.

As long as you have the right part I dont think you need to do any coding etc, just swap to new part.
