1991 Geo Storm - Page 5 Questions & Answers
My engine is making a gurgling grinding sound near
Is the coolant system completely full? It may have air in the system and what you are hearing is the air trying to pass the water pump.
You could also be hearing the valves and air flow through throttle body.
My car isn't firing. I changed my ignition coil,
Without looking at the diagram on our model Is suspect the pickup in the distributor has gone bad. In the early type distributors the pickups are prone to go bad but ground the wire from the coil to the cap and remove the cap, have a friend turn the engine over with the starter for a few seconds, check that the rotor button is turning !
I want to change the seat belts and in order to do
Some of the rear seat lower pieces were bolted to the floor with 2 10mm bolts facing the front of the car one behind or inlign with each of the front seats the rest of the lower seat halfs are released by pushing the front part of the lower seat in the same area while pulling up there are pieces of metal that catch on hooks that are part of the floor/body
Driving car and car stalls while running
Haynes manual shows this for that problem, but please take it with a grain of salt and dash of peper:
1. Idle speed incorrect
2. Fuel filter clogged or water and impurities in fuel system
3. Distributor components damp or damaged
4. Faulty emissions system component (talk about vague :)
5. Faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs
6. Faulyt spark plug wires
7. Vacuum leak in intake manifold or vacuum hoses
8. Valve clearances incorrectly set
That last one is possible IF the new timing chain/belt was installed a tooth off.
All info is from a Geo Metro/Sprint Manual, but it may help.
Fuel injection problems with my 1990 geo storm
fuel filter injectors id first check fuel pressure with fuel gage may be weak fuel pump intake gaskets would check around manifold also check batt terminals/cables if loose ecm not getting proper voltage can effect performance could be the ecm as well if u love the car dont give up always look for simple solutions first good luck
1991 geo metro car misses at low rpms
if its only missing at low rpm, then I would think the problem is electrical. try replacing the spark plugs and the plug wires and the wire from the coil to the distributer, and make sure the plugs are gapped properly. that will probably solve your problem.
1991 geo metro car misses at high rpm
try this first. the older the car; the more problems the ethanol gas is causing. replace the fuel filter. you'll probably see what you think is dirty gas; it is; in a way. it's the ethanol goop that stays and ruins engines, and fuel systems. install the new filter. add a whole can of SEAFOAM to at least a half tank of premium gas. replace fuel filter before next 500 miles.add can of SEAFOAM every 3000 miles after that, and that will clean the valves, the goop, the carbon and keep your tank and lines free of moisture, It might take afew miles(depending on the clogging), but it should work. I hate ethanol gas.
1991 Geo Storm Cranks But wont start
There are a lot of reasons why an engine might not start.
Basic first step diagnostics: Check for spark, check for gas then
figure out (usually by tracing backwards) why you are not getting it
(spark/gas).
1. Does it have gas? (Check the gauge, listen for the fuel pump etc. check the fuel pump fuse.)
2. Is the engine mechanically sound? (Check compression, open the oil
cap or remove the distributor cap and see if the camshaft is going up
and down etc.)
3. Check the engine service light. If it is on find out what the computer thinks is wrong and fix it.
4. Check to see if the ignition system is working. BTW don't just pull
a spark plug wire. This can wreck the electronics. I would pull a spark
plug and make sure it is properly grounded before checking for spark.
91 geo storm overheats
Leaks water under the dash or antifreeze. Sounds like it needs a heater core. If you replaced the thermostat it might still have air trapped in it.
