You must turn the key to CRANK then release the key to the ON position without turning it off for the pass key system initialization procedure to work. The security lihgt will not syop flashing if you do not do it this way. It also helps to install a battery charger before doing this so the system voltage does not drop too low while you are waiting for the security light to time out.You may also have to repeat the procedure three times before the engine will start.

This is a pretty common occurrence on gm vehicles like your saturn. The problem is basically a mis communication in your car's antitheft system. The system is designed to prevent your car from being hotwired. Along with the basic function of your ignition key, there is also a system called passlock that works with your key. This is the antitheft system. Your key has transponder hidden in the plastic head of the key. It sends out a signal to your ignition to tell it that everything is ok, and that you are using the correct key for that particular car. Without this signal, the car won't start and the security light comes on. So basically without that preprogrammed key, your car doesn't work. Making it impossible to hotwire. The problem you are having is that the system is malfunctioning. It can't get that signal where it needs to go and is keeping you from starting your own vehicle. There are 3 major parts in this system. Obviously the transponder key. The lock cylinder in your ignition that receives the signal from the key. And finally the Theft Deterrent Module. (TDM) The TDM is basically the brains behind the system. If any of these parts are not functioning correctly, your car won't start. The trouble is determining which part has failed. This can be costly and time consuming to replace each part one at a time. I've had great luck in bypassing the whole entire system. Your key will work just like normal, the security light turns off, and you never have to worry about this again. Not to mention you can do it yourself with a few tools, a little effort, and for less cost than a new key.Copy this link into your browser. There is a ton of info on this system and the only permanent bypass solution I've ever found. I've used it on 2 of my vehicles and many others. Good luck.http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
2002 Saturn coupe, S series,
Still using the 5w30 oil that the manufacturer recommends.?? If the engine is a "higher" mile engine you need stronger protection. Could also be a need for plugs & wires (mis-fires). When it comes to oil, the average mechanic cannot tell you what 5w30 means. 5 thousandths protection (hot) between mating surfaces (rods & bearings, push rods & lifters). 30 thousands protection (cold) between surfaces. If its an older engine, I recommend a higher viscosity oil. 10w40, for an engine 100,000 -200,000 miles.(the gap between surfaces has to be higher as it ages, right??) If you keep your cars running into the 200,000 - 275,000 mile range, I start to use a 20w50 oil. Try a thicker, higher viscosity oil.

I have a Saturn SL1
your problem is the NSS neutral safety switch which saturn loves to call a transmission range sensor. if you remove your battery and air ducting you'll have access to the sensor which is top side mounted on your transmisson, it has 3 cable harnesses on it. is secured by 2 bolts only. you'll need a multimeter to make sure you have it set TDC top dead center. if it is TDC, when set the car to drive the sensor should read absolute 0 on the multimeter just remember the ebrake.
Hello i do not get
this problem happened in my mothers grand voyager minivan, well formerly her car. the problem i'm almost certen is your coolent system is airborn. that means you have a cracked head gasket letting fuel and air mix into your coolent also coolent mix into your cylinders. I am just south of canada in new york state so umm yeah i know what you mean about the icy cold weather. go to the shop and have them do the pressure test to the coolent system. if it holds no pressure it's the head gasket.
I drive a 2002 Saturn SL and about a month ago it
if the throttle body cables are still attached and a bit rustic looking try some liquid wrench on then to get them moving freely and white lithium greese to keep them moving. always have white lithium greese and liquid wrench. wd-40 is not good because sure it removes water but it removes any lubrication you had prior set also and dries cables out.
