Step 1 - remove the four bolts holding the fascia closing panel, disconnets lap vent and remove the panel.
Step 2 - Undo the 4 screws retaining the instrument binnacle and remove taking care to unplug the fuel filler flap switch connector.
Step 3 - Undo the 2 screws holding the console side trim panels (passenger and drivers side)
At this point release the spreag clips by firmly pulling the panel rearwards and remove. This is actually easier said than done and so I added a couple of additional steps as suggested on this site which makes the job a little easier.
Step 4 - Undo the 2 screws retaining the window switch pack and move out of the way to access the single retaining screw for the gear selector surround trim section.
Remove the gear selector surround trim, remembering to disconnect the cigar lighter and bulb.
This will make it much easier to remove the drivers side console trim panel.
Rather than remove the passenger side panel completely I found it was quite easy to ease the panel slightly away from the console to gain access to the single screw holding the switch pack at that side.
Step 5 - Carefully remove the radio surround taking care not to snap the retaining clips (not a problem with mine as they went long ago!) and remove the 4 remaining screws holding the switch pack to the dash.
Step 6 - Once the screws are removed you can ease the switch pack clear from the dash (no need to disconnect any of the connections as the is ample give in the wiring to lay it out of the way, although you may want to take the opportunity to undo the two screws and the connector holding the sensor and give it a good blow through to clear any crud which may have built up!).
You can now ease the mounting bolts and remove the metal spring retainer as shown.
