IN APRIL THE CAR WOULDNT MOVE, IT SAT IN THE YARD TILL OCT NOW IT MOVES BUT CANT GET OVER 30-35 MPH FELLS LIKE ITS STUCK IN GEAR ITS GOT BOTH AN AUTOMATIC AND A CLUTCHLESS MANUAL TRANSMISSION
Sounds like your tranny is on the way out. I had a similar problem with my '91 Legacy and it required a tranny rebuild (or a used replacement which would have cost about the same).
Check your tranny fluid level and condition. Be sure to check for leaks. If its very low or empty, or really dirty (it should look red/pink, not dark or smell "burned"), it may be that a fluid replacement may remedy the shifting issue. A friend of mine had tranny issues where it was stuck in first gear, and it turned out that he never changed the tranny fluid in almost 80K miles, and a tranny flush and fluid replacement at his local Jiffy Lube solved the problem. Who knows what his neglect cosy him in longevity through.
Hope this helps.

throttle position switch. how much for the part? is it easy to repllace?
This sensor sends the ECU an output signal which corresponds to the
opening of the throttle valve. Using this output signal, the ECU
precisely controls the air/fuel ratio during acceleration, deceleration
and idling. The TP sensor and the throttle switch are combined as part
of an assembly. The switch signal turns ON only when the throttle is
opened to the idle position or at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) acceleration.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

ease of installation and adjustment

Hope this help (remember rated and comment this). Good luck.

My engine runs ok except going up one long hill where it loses power at the same place almost every time. Any ideas anyone?
David,

my 93 legacy loses power on long hills, and when it's ready to shift to 5th on the highway. four mechanics can't figure it out! she runs great the rest of the time.
It sounds like a tranny problem. Without more info kinda hard to diagnose. The simplist thing to check is tranny fluid. If its low, going up a hill will pull fluid out of the torque converter. It could be the converter itself. It could possibly a fuel problem, but unlikely. Hope this helps. John...

While the engine is cold, all the transmission goes fine. But when it reaches hot, only goes in 1st. and 2nd. The 3rd. anf 4th. increases RPM up, and change eitherwise both, in an irregular run. At this time, the car can't climb any hill, the engine goes off. Thank you for your help.
It sounds like your having some very serious issues.
First off how many miles are on the transmission?
If you have a lot of miles it could be that is it just plain worn out.
When its cold it may work a little better because the fluid is a little thicker and all the parts inside haven't expanded yet(due to heat) allowing them to not "slip" as easily.
I would check your fluid and take a look at it. If its dark and burnt smelling, its time to change it.
If it doesn't smell burned and its a red/oarnge color the fluid is probably fine.
I would then check your fluid level.
If you have to much fluid it can create air bubbles which will cause problems.
If you have to little fluid things won't be lubricated properly and will overheat, and this will also cause problems.
If your fluid level is also fine, then I would check your transmission filter(if equipped). This could be the cause of your problem as well.
If you've made sure you have fresh fluid filled to the correct level and a new transmission filter and it still acts up it is probably just worn out.
Hopefully my tips will get your car going up those hills for a little while longer,
Good Luck,
AadoubleA

Hi,
I have a 1990 Subaru Liberty Wagon that overheats in a strange way. Ok here what I have replaced so far but the problem doesn't go away.
Heads have been rebuilt, new head gasket, new water pump, new thermostat, new radiator, new hoses, new radiator cap. Water system has been bleed and there is no air in the system, water flows nicely through the raditor. Fans come on just under half temp and run the right way.
I can drive the car with no overheating problem and then next time it overheats for no reason. The strange thing is it overheats while just cruzing along and when you rev the motor or put under load going up a hill the temp guage drops under half. You leave the car idle over for an hour and no overheating. I don't understand why underload the temp goes down. I can sometimes drive the car for an hour and nothing happens, take the cap off radiator and water is fine. Then another time it overheats, take the car off radiator and water is boiling over.
Has anyone got an answer as I am about to give up on this!!!
Have been reading about air locks in system??? but I have done everything everyone has said to bleed the air out.
Hi,
I had the same problem with my 1993 Liberty LX. Remove the thermostat (located inside bottom radiator hose engine connection - take the connection off and thermostat is inside). Reassemble (minus thermostat), reconnect bottom hose. Slowly (very, very slowly) refill the radiator and remove the bleed plug ( located beside the top hose connection to the radiator - a black square plug with a phillips head cross in the middle). When the radiator is full and clear water (no air bubbles) is coming out of the bleed point, replace the bleed plug and then the radiator cap.
Run the engine for five minutes (approx) or until normal engine temperature is reached. Allow the engine to cool down and recheck the water level - fill if necessary ensuring that the bleed plug is open and clear water is coming out of that point. Replace Bleed plug and then radiator cap. Run engine for five minutes (approx) and then test dive. If the engine overheats keep filling the radiator until there are no air bubbles coming from out of the bleed point.
This fixed my overheating problem. Good luck and safe motoring.

Starts and does not die in park as soon as i put in into reverse or drive it dies
are there any codes ? sounds like a bad throttle position sensor and or a idle air control valve

the fluids are full, the fan is working, when heater is on cold air blows....
car is overheating. No water flowing from radiator to engine.
is it the thermostat? can I replace it myself?
water pump was replace about 1 year ago.
water pump could be bad again. if the seal is out lets air in around pump propeller and it won't move water and it over heats. its a lot of work but you can fix it your self

1993 Subaru Legacy. Cigarette lighter plug is not working. There is no fuse box inside the car in the driver's side footwell. Fuses under hood are all good, but I'm iffy about relays as I'm not sure how to tell if they are bad. Fuse diagram (under hood) does not state which fuse powers the lighter plug and I don't want to buy a new lighter plug if the problem is just a blown fuse. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have a friend who often needs a ride, but cannot "plug in" her breathing equipment since the lighter plug is not operating.
there is one there I have the same car. Its on the driver side wall up underneath the hood release lever. its a 4" X 3" black box with writing on it and to open it you pull down on the latch on top and it pops off
