If you can, put an OBDII scan tool on it and look for codes in the P0730 range (incorrect gear ratio). Any P07XX code is a transaxle code. Alternatively, check that your shift lever is adjusted properly. Sometimes it may seem correct but since there are switches there it is possible that they are not making content in D. The other possibilities are low line pressure (check/change the transaxle oil), low oil level (do not overfill, it may damage your newly-installed transaxle or cause fluid to be ejected out of the fill tube), valve body problems or sensors. Got a MIL lit? That's a sure bet there's something the computer wants to tell you about.
Speedometer speed sensor location different from 1995 & 1996 modules
Just to warn you if you live in a state (like PA) that has inspections, if you go to a parts store to get your codes erased, the codes still show in the computer and you wont pass inspection. You have to take it to the dealer and spend $$$ to have it erased from the cpu. This is for 96 and newer volvos. This is why I stick to rwd redblock bricks Adam - 92' 245 with 345k miles and still running like a top.

Car runs but wont accelerate.
Your car is not recieving fuel to the engine, hence the stalling. Check and replace both the fuel filter and fuel pump.
My car is a Mitsubishi
You can connect it..BUT when you turn your lights on, ALL 4 lights will be on, it sounds like all you need to do is change out your dimmer switch, that should fix your problem...
No flasher,interior lights, and radio
Pull the fuses from your fuse board and examine the tips. If they are original fuses, they are probably corroded away. On a European car this age, if the fuses look original, I would replace them all before even beginning to diagnose any electrical problems. You may find that this solves most, if not all, of your problems.
When i"m driving my volvo
Is the knocking a regular rhythm that is proportional to the speed of the car? Driveshaft center bearings generally drive you crazy with buzzing and grinding before they get to the point of knocking, but I suppose that is possible. Drive shaft and rear end bearings would not make noise as you start the car, however.
Is the knocking related to road surface or braking, and is it directly below your feet? If so, it is the control arm bushing. That part is bolted to the bottom of the car directly beneath your feet and it will knock when the rubber part fails and crumbles out. This is common on a car this old, but this part also would not knock as you start the car.
A knock when you start the car is more likely the exhaust pipe hitting the bottom of the car. This can happen if a bolt is missing from a hangar, or the pipe is bent, or an engine mount is broken. The engine mount on the passenger side is the easier one to see from the top, and is usually the one that breaks first, as I recall. I always suggest that engine mount replacement be left to professionals. That job is a good way to loose a finger.
Be sure and check the bolt in the bracket right at the rear of the engine. For some reason, this one works loose and the bolt falls out. You have to crawl under the car to see if that bolt has fallen out.
Another suspect is the transmission mount. Does the shifter move as you step on the gas and let off the gas?

www.autozone.com has all sorts of online guides with this information.
It does require registration, but it is simple to do. I would also suggest buying the relevant Haynes Book for your model vehicle to attempt any mechanical repair like this.
