We have a 1991 jeep wrangler 4.0 and we changed
My 1991 Wrangler would alternate between no spark and no fuel. After replacing the crank sensor, the coil, and the fuel pump twice I started chasing wires looking for a bad ground. There is a black with a yellow stripe wire that comes out of the rear body harness between the front e brake mount and the front door post(very hard to get at)right above the bottom dash edge that should be securely grounded to the front e brake mount. As soon as I secured that ground everything worked properly again.

I have a gas leak by the tank, what could it be?
Hi,
Unless it rusted so bad or if you or a previous owner hit something with the tank I think you can rule out the tank itself leaking. I would say its most likely the braided hose that comes right out of the tank and feeds it towards the engine bay. I had a situation with my mitsubishi 3000gt where the cap of the fuel pump had a small metal pipe coming out of it that was threaded in which the braided hose would go onto, and the metal pipe was just corroded and leaking from there. If this is the case, you would need to replace the fuel pump. It's hard to say without visual inspection.

Sloppy Steering I just purchased a used 91 Jeep
I know a lot of people who have jeeps and operate them off road. Usual problems include loose steering from worn or damaged suspension and/or steering components and a bumpy ride due to blown bushings, shocks, or suspension components as well. Yours may not have endured the same abuse but I'd suggest first checking your tire pressure, tread for even wear on all tires and then I'd have an alignment done (if you have damaged components they will tell you before they can align your vehicle) and that will give you an idea of what is wrong with it

First thing you need to do is check the venting system. Jeeps use either a PCV valve or a ported valve.
In either case, make sure that the valve on the valve cover is clean and able to flow. PCV valves are not expensive so I'd just replace it if you have one, CCV (ported) can be cleaned out with a small wire and carb cleaner.
Make sure that there is vacuum present at the valve, if not, clear the line or fitting of carbon.
Both systems can only function well if the engine itself is in good condition. If you have worn piston rings, crank case pressure rises above the capacity of the system and excess pressure will vent to the air filter.
If that is the cause, nothing short of rebuilding the engine will stop it from doing that but I have seen some that people have removed the hose from the air filter box and diverted it into a vented "catch can"
so it doesn't foul the filter. it's not a "fix" but keeps the oil off the filter.

Starter problem, starter turns but bendix wont in
Hello rsellar.
You have a couple possible problems here.
First is the replacement starter had a defect (overunning clutch slipping).
Secondly your battery may be low on charge and hasn't the energy to kick the drive into the ring gear.
And lastly, check to make sure the teeth in the ring gear are in good condition.
Two types of starters are used. The first type is a direct drive starter
motor with an overrunning clutch type starter drive. A solenoid switch
is mounted on the starter motor. The second type is a permanent magnet
reduction gear starter. A planetary gear train transmits power between
starter motor and pinion shaft. The structure is different on both type
starters, but electrical wiring is the same.
If you have further questions on this please ask me here. Be glad to help.

I have a 91 YJ
Find out exactly where it's leaking fluid from before replacing anything unnecessarily. It could be a simple line leak.

My 1991 wrangler 6 cyl runs for few min then what
Sounds like a compression ring in one of your cylinders has broken and compression is being pushed into oil pan. Cylinder compression getting past the piston, instead of going out the exhaust it's going into oil pan and coming through engine (dipstick, air cleaner, PCV.) You'll need to have a compression test to confirm.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
Surely an alternator failure. The carbon of the alternator is worn out or the internal capacitor is faulty that's why it blows the fuse and drain the battery. An alternator replacement will surely be helpful.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Cost for timing belt replacement, 1991 wrangler
The belt cost about $35 at Autozone, and it depends on the garage on cost, I would say no more then $50 to do this.
As a side note it takes about 10 min or less to change this belt with a simple hand tools, however replacing the belt tensioner is recommended if worn out, as this will eat your new belt.
Hope this helps.

Retighten all the other bolts wehn done do not over tighten the belt it will ruin the bearing and case early belt wear.

My granny gear and rear
I would first check the vacuum disconnect on the front axle (dana 30). The vacuum lines often become clogged and/or broken, especially when wheeling a 20 year old Jeep. My solution for my '93 YJ was the cable option which replaces the vacuum one (try Quadratec). This way I had a more positive feeling and no more vacuum issues to worry about.

My wife and I recently purchased a 91 wrangler
you said the starter looks new, if so check to make sure the starter bolts are tight on both sides if the starter gets cocked sideways it will put a bind on the starter. Also take your vehicle to Autozone they will check the battery for free....If it is a everstart take it back to wall mart it will have a 3 to 5 yr. warenty on this battery.
