1989 Cadillac Seville Questions & Answers
1989 cady 4.5 liter car idle high until car
This is not normal for this car. Sholly-NG is WRONG..!!! The TPS sensor needs to be at its proper setting. It must be set at -1.0 to +1.0 on the diagnosatics center on ECM parameter ED01 TPS with key on and motor off and throttle shut against the air screw or stop. I moved the ISC "idle speed control' out of the way to get this setting {mine is -1.0 } Now with the ISC back in place it must be fully extended with the use of a jumper wire by - to terminal c and + to terminal d. Now with it at maximum extension the TPS parameter should be 10.5 to 11.5 . To adjust it correctly you will need to turn the plunger in to lower the parameter and out to increase. Setting the TPS will increase you gas mileage and correct the idle problem. This is not a job that just any parts replacer can do. You must follow these steps to fix it correctly.
Having issues with the 3 minute lock out
The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

High beam dimmer switch on a 1989 Cadillac Seville
Could be a couple of things. One would be that the dimmer switch has over time come loose and is now out of adjustment. Or the plastic piece in the column that pushes the rod that goes to the switch has broke. Or the switch is bad.
I have a 1989 Cadillac
251 degrees is way too hot-so it's basics time, how long has it been since you have replaced the thermostat, or changed the antifreeze? At that temp, you could do major damage to the heads, head gasket and even the engine, so you really want to have the entire cooling system gone over-you coolant fan may be failing, or an engine control (like a relay for the cooling fans, even the engine computer)-it should be gone over sooner than later since overheating is the worst thing you can do to an engine.

Fender bender, bought new assembly. How to remove
LIGHTING
Headlights
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
- Unscrew the Torx retaining screws and remove the headlight bezel.
- Remove the headlight bulb retaining screws. These are the screws which hold the retaining ring for the bulb to the front of the car. Do not touch the two headlight aiming screws, at the top and the side of the retaining ring (these screws will have different heads), or the headlight aim will have to be re-adjusted.
- Pull the bulb and ring forward, then separate them. Unplug the electrical connector from the rear of the bulb.
- Plug the new bulb into the electrical connector. Install the bulb into the retaining ring and then install the ring and the bulb. Install the headlight beze
I need to replace timing chain on 89 cadillac seville
Need to look at the distributor first and make sure its tightened down and cannot be easily rotated. May have gotten out of time enough to mess up the gear on the bottom of the distributor too...You didn't include the mileage so I'm assuming its fairly high.. Could be the cap too they short internally and mess up good
