1999 Subaru Impreza - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I just got a 1999 Subaru Impreza (Outback Sport)
First check for an owners manual(it will say), if there isn't one a lot times there will be a sticker on the inside of the gas lid saying what to use. However, unless to vehicle is turbo or is higher compression than stock, i am quite certain 87 octane will suffice.
I have a oil leak looks like its comeing from the
The problem is with rubber seals at the entry of each plug causing oil to leak to the engine. What you need is new ones. Check the plugs affected and replace them too. By the way, oil leak to the engine will make the sub' to have a power loss of upto about 50% in an extreme case the car will refuse to start while cold!
Changing a down pipe on a subaru sti
1. No. I would not recomand the change 2. Minor horsepower increase. Not worth the money spent. Looks better than it performs. 3. Violation of federal emmisions standards 4. The O2 sensors read off the change from prior to the cat as well as after to aide in reference to fuel injector pulse(lean to rich and back). Fuel mileage decrease. 5. For true performance change, all components need to be considered(i.e. tps, cam and crank sensors, ignition components, cams, intake as well as exhaust components. Computer controlls that can be changed by the user to benefit what driving is going to be desired at that time. There really is more to be considered than just one component. Things need to work together and all need to be in sync and spec. You also need to consider the emission laws where you live and since all states have some form of inspection and/or emissions testing, removal of the cat would be detected and would fail. Not to mention illegal.

Subaru impreza sport 1999 piston slap
Rebuilding the engine is the only true cure. Be sure that the engine warms up without driving it. In other words, don't put any excessive load on the engine while it is cold. Once it warms up, the piston, rings, pins, etc. will expand from the heat. This is why you only hear slapping when the engine is cold.

What is the AT OIL TEMP light? and if it is
That indicates an Automatic Transmission Oil Temperature problem. Your transmission is overheating. Check the oil level in the transmission, also when was the last time you had the transmission oil changed? This could be occuring because of an excessive load on the trans(pulling a trailer) etc. Generally if it is flashing it means stop now. Could be as benign as a failed sensor, but definitely needs to be checked out.
