I set of my alarm on my jeep and now it wont start. How do i reset the alarm?
Here is excerpt from the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Service Manual ... i know you posted under 1997 JGC but this information may be helpful ... by "reset alarm" i believe you meant disarming the alarm?
“Arming
Passive arming of the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) occurs when the vehicle is exited with the key removed from the ignition switch, the headlamps are turned off, and the doors are locked using power lock switch. The power lock switch will not function if the key is in the ignition switch or the headlamps are on with the driver’s door open. The VTSS will not arm if either front door or the liftgate are locked using the key in the lock cylinder.
Active arming of the VTSS occurs when the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is used to lock the vehicle, even if the doors and/or the liftgate are open when the RKE transmitter Lock button is depressed. However, the VTSS arming will not be complete until all the doors and the liftgate are closed.
Following successful passive or active VTSS arming, the VTSS set lamp on the top of the instrument panel will flash rapidly for about 15 seconds after the illuminated entry system times out. This indicates that the VTSS arming is in progress. If the light stays on steadily during the arming, it indicates that the hood switch is closed (the hood is open). The VTSS will still arm if the hood is open, but the engine compartment will not be protected. Once the 15 second arming function is complete, the set lamp will flash at a slower rate to indicate that the VTSS is armed.
Disarming
Passive disarming of the Vehicle Theft Security Sytem (VTSS) occurs when the vehicle is unlocked using the key to unlock either front door or the liftgate. Active disarming of the VTSS occurs when the vehicle is unlocked by depressing the Unlock button of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
Once the alarm has been activated (horn sounding, exterior lights flashing, and the the engine no-run feature), either disarming method will also deactivate the alarm.
Depressing the Panic button on the RKE transmitter will also disarm the VTSS, but the horm will sound and teh exterior lamps will flash for about three minutes as a part of the Panic feature function. ..."
And as an additional note, if you have the courtesy interior lights set at 30 seconds like i do, you have to wait until lights go out (with alarm still sounding) before you can disarm the alarm via passive disarm method... what a pain when you don't have the actual RKE handy...
Good Luck!

there are 3 buttons on the sun driver side visor, what do they do? when I push any of the, a light lites next to it?
these should be programable buttons for a garage door opener setup in your car...they can be set to the frequency of a garage door remote....

Hi guys, please help me. I've pressed the button for unlock the doors (as usual) but the drivers door doesn't opened. I opened it with the key and the alarms start, with the horn and lights. I tried to start the engine but after 3 seconds it stops. I think that I can't turn off the alarm. Can you help me?
First, try to re-programme the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitters before searching for anything else. Assure that the batteries in the transmitters are in working condition and replace them if you are not sure. To pro-gramme the transmitters, perform the following:
Open the driver's door and let it be open throughout the programming process. Then, shift the mechanical door lock lever to the LOCK mode, turn the ignition key to the rUN mode. Within a period of twenty seconds, point a transmitter at the receiver dome and push the lock button for a period of five seconds at least. After the receiver has accepted the programming code the driver's door will unlock on its own. The first transmitter has been programmed, in the same extra transmitters up to four may be programmed in the same way, within twenty seconds.
If the alarm does not work
properly, you may have a faulty alarm module and may have to be replace and its common problems with and older model. the systems work like a security systems, if you arms your system with the remote you have to disarm it also with the remote in order for the engine to start and run. The logic in the PCM prevents the VTSS engine no-run feature from arming until the engine start; Its one of the security systems jeep has and if you ask for my opinion its junk. hope that help some..

Part 2. Found a blown fuse that prevented my heat/ac from working (Thanks, Walker!), but the Heater Blower resistor's ceramic element is VERY hot. Not familiar with these. It IS next to the blower, so maybe the fan cools it, but I am concerned that if I use the blower, it will pop the fuse and/or melt something. Am I worrying about nothing here, or do I still have work to do?
the resistor is indeed very hot! and you are right it's cool by the blower, that's why most resistors are in the blower case.
the fuse was blown because it's not the right amp rating or the blower may be going bad.
