It's not possible to pinpoint, with just online info, what is causing the backfire, but if it blew your muffler open, the engine is definitely dumping raw fuel into the exhaust. Look into what can cause excessive fuel to be dumped into the exhaust and you may find the cause of your problem.

Check what else is on the fused supply and replace the fuse if faulty. Could be a common problem.

Speaking from prior experience, It's possible that the door lock latch assembly may need replacing usually the drivers side or the lift gate latch assembly. These are the 2 that can arm & disarm the alarm system. You may have a faulty switch in either of these. Hope this helps.

To be able to replace the bybass hose on the water pump, you must first make room to gain access to the hose clamps that attach to the water pump. To make room you must first remove the fan clutch, fan and fan shroud all of them simultaneously. To do that, start by loosening the tensioner roller with a rathcet and removing the serpentine belt. Then loosen the fan cluthc nut using a 32 mm spaner and loosen the bolts of the fan shroud. Then pull the three things upwards (fan shroud, fan, and fan clutch).

Hi, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 1997 has a security system called VTSS (Vehicle Theft Security System). The VTSS cannot be disabled as it comes factory installed. What you can do is prevent the VTSS alarm from arming. If you prevent it from arming, you will void it activating. One of the VTSS funcions is to also prevent the engine from starting when the alarm is armed. To disarm the alarm do this. Locate a line colored Violet with a black trace in the Body control module connector. In a suitable place of that line, insert a needle and using a jumper wire touch that needle with an extreme while the other extreme is touching ground. This will disarm the VTSS alarm. When the VTSS is disarmed, the engine will start every time you need it to.

Of course it is!! You need to demobilize it by pressing unlock on the key after turning the egnition 3/4 of the way on.. then start it. It shouldn't cut out then. But sometimes if your battery is a flat in the keys, which can also leave it imobilized. USA jeep, no one ever says !!!! the tail lamps are not brake lamps. they are independant. there are many parking lamps , and the tails are that. do all parking lamps fail>? see FSM page 8w50-2 the tails run directly to the park headlight switch pin, marked park. which gets power from fuse 34 the same switch and pin runs all other park lamps and same fuse 34. so if the fuse is good, then all lamps are burned out , nah. or the switch is bad, and can due to so many lights for so long. if lamps are not dim then here is no short, so must be an open Fuse 34 tops list , use an ohmeter to test the fuse. or replace it as , they can get hair line cracks. inside fues 0 ohms = good, infinity = bad fuse.

Is it fuel injected or carb??? Try holding the gas pedal to the floor while turning the jeep over. This sometimes makes gas pump thru to the cylinders. Have you changed the fuel filter???? I know alot of jeeps have a fule filter with a bypass back to the tank, and sometimes the filter will be bypassing to the tank instead of the the motor. Check it out?????
