1998 Subaru Forester - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Loses power when turning corner then power resumes as normal when straightened
You likely have a bad ground somewhere. Look for a torn cable between the engine and frame. In this old of a vehicle it could be corroded, or if you have ever been off roading, these grounds can bet yanked off. The reason you loose power when turning is because the engine's computer can get ground through the ball joints to the frame, but obviously this is an unreliable way to ground the PCM. Sounds strange, I know, but a mechanic friend of mine has had a dealership bring a car to him after they gave up on it, and he found a bad ground. It was doing exactly what you describe above. If you can't find a ground wire running from the engine to the frame, just install one.
1998 subaru forester temperature guage fluctuates
first make sure the fan is comming on when it gets warm. i would replace the thermostate any way whats 12.00 now vs 2,800 to replace the engen latter. also i would change out the sending unit that goes to the cluster. also disconect the neg. side battery and turn the fan by hand it should spin very easy i belive this vehicle has 2 fans. if they turn frely reconet thr battery start the vehicle turn on ac if both fans do not come on you may have a bad fan relay good luck.

Subaru wrx sti 2000 abs light in the dash comes on
The ABS system on a car has way to many components to know exactly what would make the light come on without more info from you. It could be a simple wheel speed sensor all the way up to a bad pump or modulator. Purchase an ABS code scanner at your local parts store or better yet go to each part store in your area to find one who will scan it for you. ( oriely auto parts will do that for free ) . They will advise you of the fault and sell you the correct part. The dealer and all shops will charge you a minimum 1 hour labor just to scan it for you which runs 80-100 dollars, and then fix it for you for even more. Then ya gotta hope they tell ya the truth and don't try and scare ya into thinking you need thousands of dollars of work. The ABS system on all vehicles that are equipped with that have a computer you can scan just like the on board computer for the engine. One thing to remember is that on all vehicles equipped with ABS is that when a component in the ABS system failed or intermediatlly fail it throws that light on. When that light is on it doesn't mean that you may not have brakes. Some shops will scare you into thinking you may be driving with a potential of total brake failure. Not true. All ABS equipped cars are designed so that ABS is an addition to the existing brake system and if the abs fails slightly or totally the original brake system still functions normally as it should. Shop around and get the best deal and most honest answer. I've done brake jobs with faulty ABS components for $45.00 for people who were quoted over $1,000.00 for the same work.

Replaced leaking water pump now engine keeps
yes that is your problem. the water pump is made to turn clockwise. when the engine runs it turns clockwise right! if it turns counter clock wise it will not circulate coolant and it will over heat. the only thing I can say is the drive belt may be on wrong causing it to run backwards.
