1998 Lexus LS 400 Questions & Answers
How do I add refrigerant for the air conditioner?
Get a fill kit with a pressure gauge on it from an auto parts store. The ones with a red, yellow, green indicator are the easiest to use. Follow the instructions on the label. You will be measuring pressure from the low pressure side, that's the one with the thicker aluminum pipe coming out of the compressor. There will be a service port with a plastic cap on it. That's where you connect the refill kit. Follow the instructions & get the pressure into the middle area on the gauge while the a/c is on max & the engine running.
Intramental lights not working
Try checking the fuse block for a bad fuse should be under dash check your manual for the actual location of the fuse. If that doesn't seem to be the problem check and make sure the lights are turned on via the dimmer switch. Sounds to simple but a lot of times the switch gets turned off by accident. Other than that I recommend taking it to an electrical repair shop so you don't damage any of the computer driven parts also DO NOT use a test light on the fuses in the block use a volt meter, you can easily pop the airbags or damage the computers!!

How many miles before oil change is needed
I drive quite a few miles in my 1998 LEXUS LS40 and have religiously changed the oil every 5,000 miles (and rotated the tires). Im pushing 185,000 miles on it now and I am due to change the timing belt a second time next weekend. That being said, I have never had any issues with the engine changing the oil at a 5,000 mile interval. I use the standard synthetic blend oil at the local quick stop type oil change places.
