Please see my post I just made about this. For your convenience I have copied and pasted it here.
I have a 97 van and same thing is happening. Won't stay running and the next day - starts right up. I just read that the gauge pod/instrument cluster which is basically a module itself needs replaced - it's in the dashboard. After removing the cluster, you will find a couple of
pc boards on the back. The pc boards and the solder connections become damaged after years of hot and cold weather. The solder joints will either crack or become loose from the expansion and contraction of hot and cold conditions. You can re-solder all the joints and carefully reheat each one (VERY EASY), or get a used one from a junk yard or auto parts store or dealership. Just take out the old one and plug in the replacement and reinstall the dashboard parts. My friend just did this for me last night and it is working like a charm. Only took about 15 minutes. I cannot believe that I took this car to three separate repair shops - one of which was a Chrysler dealership - and no one could figure this out. It was because of forums like this one that I was able to resolve the problem.
Should this NOT be the problem (mine was), you can also try and disconnect the battery cables for awhile, which allows the
computer to restart, the car will stay running at least for awhile until you can repair it.
Hope this helps.
