1986 Jeep Cherokee - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
1986 jeep cherokee laredo windshield wipers and
On a 1986 jeep I believe it has a "wiper-turn-signal assembly" that is all part of the turn signal lever. (I think its a GM/Chevy style.) The new models have an assembly that's in the steering column behind the steering wheel. If I'm correct that its all part of the lever, that is almost definitely the problem - 98-99%. Pretty much the same answer for the newer versions also. I have replaced over a couple hundred in my "career". Keep smiling.

Lean fuel mixture
which engine? lots of engines on 86, lots swapped too.
to work on any car engine wise this is first, ID the engine.
then the Fuel system. carb or EFI.?
lean fuel mix can be caused by.
well gee what engine, and is it EFI, nah , not in 86 its a carb.
if a carb you really need to say so as many a mech never seen one.
today. gone now for 27 years. 87 to present.
i cut teeth on carbs. in 60s
a love/ hate thing,,, today i have fancy tools, that mean them easy.
my comments are USA only , as export jeeps are vastly diffr.
I had a 88 (2 of them same time) then a 99, then a 2002 then 2008
1/2 million miles on them or more.
vacuum lines are easy, replace em or inspect test them.
if they look cracked they are roll them between fingers.
or use a hand vacuum tool attached and do a leak down test on all .
or pinch them running to see if RPM changes radically.
ill answer for CARBS (in order of likely)
- dirty carb. (inside)
- jets clogged or partially.
- flow level set too low.
- float valve sticking closed. gummy. see #1
- fuel pressure low. to CARB. the FSM has spec, here .
- lean under heavy load is power jet stuck closed , see #1
- lean only for an instant, fast right foot, means the accelerator pump is dead, fix it . clean carb and kit it. and it need to be adjusted per the manual. FSM.
- sure any air leaks below the carb cause lean... lots of ways.

RE: Power windows quit working 1986 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer
Hi Steve,If you have a test light check each side of the circuit beaker, one end on the battery neg and the other on each terminal of the circuit breaker. If you don't find one that only has power on one side, get some to try the windows while you check them again, the circuit beaker may only be failing under load.Terry

Where is fuse for 4 wheel drive located on 1986
Hello,
The fuse of this car is located under the hood of the car. It is a box covered in some kind of plastic casing, you will have to pry open the cover to be able to locate the fuse of this car.
Hope this was helpful. Thank You for Using FixYa!!!

Won't go into 4 low
Have you tried shifting the automatic transmission to neutral, or if manual transmission- place shift lever to neutral position, then shift the transfer case to neutral position wait a couple seconds then try shifting to 4 low- if you have manual hubs, engage those last. This removes most of the potential mechanical resistance that should allow for the transfer case to shift. If it still will not go into 4 low you may be dealing with damaged teeth, bent shift dog or worn internal bearings inside the transfer case. As I recall, that was NOT a shift on the fly transfer case.

My jeep shutdown all power while i was driving and
Beginning with the battery, make sure everything is clean and properly connected. Use a volt meter and begin tracing power from where it starts (the battery posts themselves) then work your way through the system.
Begin with a fully charged load tested battery or no testing is valid.
Most common problems are dirty battery terminals or a bad ground connection at the block. Other possibility is that the alternator is not working and there is nothing left (volts) in the battery. There ar quite a number of other causes but the ones I mentioned are the most common.
Good luck....any further questions? ask and I'll help.

My brake is going all
If you had to add brake fluid, you have a leak somewhere in the braking system and that is what's causing the low brake pedal. Have the brakes checked out asap.

Instructions on how to remove
Once the bolts are out, the top gear comes off easily. At most, a bit of gentle prying from behind. The lower gear is best removed using a gear puller. If it's absolutely impossible for you to get one, I have seen people use a chisel and split the gear to remove it. Other option is to leave it on and just change the chain and top gear...generally the lower gear does not sustain much wear.

I will press on my
You need to have someone LOOK at this ASAP before you kill someone or yourself. You have a failure
in the hydraulic system which makes the brakes work by transferring your foot's motion to the braking surfaces. You could have a leaking line, a leaking master or slave cylinder any of which can cause a nasty accident. An actual person looking at the brake components is needed.
