TPS means Throttle Plate Position sensor. It is installed on electronic fuel injection engines produced after 1996. TPS is attached to the side of the throttle body which converts the mechanical movement of the accelerator pedal to electronic signals. After receiving the signals from TPS. the Electronic Control Module (ECM) assumes, how much accelerator pedal is depressed by the driver and so it adjust the on time of the fuel injectors to deliver the metered quantity of the fuel to each cylinder and to adjust the ignition timing as well.
