you can find what you need at your local library, they can show you what books to look up, and even print the information for you, normally for about 10 cents a copy.

99% of the time it's motormounts (unless you have a 4 cylinder, then it's just a 4 cylinder engine)-----YOU didn't say if this was moving or stationary, but another possiblity is the driveshaft is out of balance, tires, or an engine in need of a tuneup.

1988 jeep wrangler with oil
MOST OIL LEAKS COME FROM A BAD GASKET! IF YOU CAN LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK, YOU CAN FIX IT! IT COULD BE JUST A VALVE COVER GASKET LEAK! YOU CAN UNBOLT THE VALVE COVER, REMOVE IT, TAKE THE OLD GASKET OUT, CLEAN UP THE INSIDE, TO INSURE THERE IS NO OLD GASKET STUCK ON THE COVER! PUT THE NEW GASKET ON, AND REMOUNT THE VALVE COVER! RULE OF THUMB: WHEN TIGHTENING IT DOWN, START WITH THE MIDDLE BOLTS, SNUG THEM UP, THEN WORK YOUR WAY TO THE OUTSIDE! ONCE YOU HAVE SNUBBED THEM UP, GO BACK TO THE MIDDLE, AND TURN THE BOLT 1/8 TO 1/4 TURN EACH IN THE SAME WAY ( FROM THE MIDDLE- OUT!

Check that the terminals are tight, check the starter terminals for tight. May be a starter relay bad.

Having a issue with my 1988 Jeep Wrangler
Those 88's run a 2 barrel carb that is notorious for causing minor issues like this. Sounds like your carb and/or fuel filter is clogged...this is common due to the age and rust accumulating inside of the gas tank (normal for older vehicles). When is the last time you have had the carb thoroughly cleaned and/or rebuilt? I'd look there for the problem. If not there, then perhaps your fuel pump is dying and just not able to force enough down the line for idling and driving.

I have a 1988 jeep
There are no vaccum lines for this. What you have is a shift cable. From lack of use or over use the shift cable becomes worn and will break. It can also become stuck and will not move. Secure your jeep and crawl underneath. While someone moves the lever watch where the cable is. A temp fix is to lube it up but the best thing to do is to replace it.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. Don't forget to rate me.

I just replaced the Starter,Fuel
if it acts like you turned the key off where the motor just shuts off without missing and sputturing i would for sure look at changing crankshaft sensor or may be a camshaft sensor if it has one. once sensor looses track of timing computer will shut down motor.

I have an 88 Cherokee
Check your pcv valve and make sure the vacuum line that goes to it is not plugged up.
If that's clear and the valve is good then likely you have excessive blow-by ...that is caused by ring and cylinder wall wear. On an engine that old, it's normal but unfortunate. In that case, the only real fix is an engine rebuild but you may be able to minimize how much comes out of there by adding a good viscosity improver like lucas additive. A new breather grommet or seal may also help contain a bit of what's leaking as well.

Replaced engine in an 88 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.2
There are only a couple of things that would cause that...Either you have the wrong flywheel (different offset) or it's in backwards (not possible if stick shift) or the starter is slightly different. Only other thing is that while you were doing the work, the starter drive rusted and is not returning properly.
If the drive is fully retracting then I'd suspect any of the other things I listed.
I'm assuming that is mechanically remaining engaged and not that the relay is staying energized?
Only option is to either take it apart again or shim the starter away from the bellhousing. I don't like doing that though because it lessens the amount of leverage it takes to break the starter nose.

Need the float measurement settings.
you're on the right track. could be needle and seat leakage (both included in rebuild kit), or maladjusted or saturated float. later more likely. float is separate part from kit. setting will be provided in kit.
